    Okay, so with my lovely Surly Crosscheck run over and then stolen, I’m looking for a new bike.
    During the weekend, it pulls a children’s trailer or a follow me tandem, whilst in the week it will be used for carting light equipment (survey staff,measuring wheel, laptop and lunch, etc) down grass towpaths from the back of a car (I’m an engineer on the canals). If I can’t get the money back on the insurance it is likely to be a Pinnacle Lithium.

    But if I could get the money back, a Surly Wednesday keeps making me think. I know it would not be compatible with the follow me tandem, but…I’ve read too many things on Bikepacking.com.

    Swop the Alaskan coast for Rhyl-Talacre Beach with the kids, and a trail high in the Andes for the Shropshire Union Canal.

    Any real world experience of a Surly Wednesday?

    I would personally think you’re better off with a Krampus perhaps in sale

    Why not go the whole hog and get an Ice Cream Truck?. Most fun bike I’ve ever had, can’t explain it but just so nice to ride – over anything and everything!

    My wife has one, either small or extra small. Pretty capable – she’s done the Rovaniemi 66km and 150km races on it. I’d say it’s more an explorer bike than one aimed at trail centres.

    Generally not light, stock weight was 17kg 😳 but I knocked over 1kg off that by swapping out the supplied tyres (Surly Nates 3.8″ 27tpi) with 4.3″ Surly Ednas. The wheels themselves aren’t that heavy, the rims (My Other Brother Daryl) are lighter than those on my fat bike which were custom built by the previous owner.     The through axles are stealth fitting, I think 8mm hex for the front and 6mm hex for the rear. SRAM NX 2x drivetrain seems to be holding up well so far. Brakes are, err something or other, and probably the weak point in the general componentry.

    I’m a former Krampus owner, have a moonlander, big dummy and bridge club currently. All great bikes, so buy the one you want most. However, if it stops you using the tandem/trailer and stops the kids coming along is it a good idea? The bridge club will take 27.5 x 2.8 plus tyres and 700 x 47 tyres (2.6 & 47s with ‘guards) so will be a good all-rounder and the cheapest. The new Red one looks ace.

    I have a wednesday and until recently I used it for 90% of my riding. I built it up from a second hand frame. Mine is set up as a trail bike. Bluto forks, Dt 710 rims, hope hubs, 1×10 xt and slx gearing, slx brakes, brand x dropper.I have no idea what it weighs but I do everything on it. For a fat bike the geometry is a bit slack. Cant fault it. If you are anywhere south wales your welcome to come and try it. I love it.
