    if only that money and energy could be directed into an activity with some sort of point…

    reminds me of the itnerview witht he record collector:
    “This is the rarest one I have – there’s only one other in the world”

    “What would you do if you had the other one?”

    “Smash it so I owned the only one in the world”

    I don;t really understand ‘collectors’ of things, really.
