Suggest a rear mudguard for me.

The weater is uber-crap, muddy slop abounds here. Yuk. Actually, double yuckky yuk. Truely horrid. Admittedly not Chilterns levels of mess but its getting close.

I really need a decent rear mudguard. My seatpost is an internal dropper so my spare crudguard is out. Any suggestions?

Mudhugger tends to be the go to option, I like the look of the sks mudrocker as well though (well maybe not the looks of it)

Mudhugger . Even on my shallow tubed anthem a totally clean back.

Has anyone mentioned mudhugger? They are the best after all but looks terrible, though that not stopped SKS mudrocker copying them. Zefal Deflector is another alternative, that should have very similar performance

If a Mudhugger fits, it will be the best option.

The Zefal Deflector is OK but a bit waggley.

Haven’t tried the SKS Mudrocker, but might try on my Orange Five as the mudhugger doesn’t fit well.

I’ve had a Mudhugger permanently fixed to the bike since 2017, transferred across multiple frames. Would’ve suggested that, but the SKS looks like they might’ve addressed the few, minor niggles I have with mine. If I was in the market for a new rear guard (I’m not) I’d take a punt on that.

That was a super sloppy ride but I remained mostly mud free from about the knees up! The only thing that’s uglier tho than a MH is the Crudguard XL I have on the front 😉

Yep, mudhugger. I wrap the frame in self amalgamating tape first so the hugger and tip ties have something to bed into.

I use a crud guard mounted v low on the seat post, as an alternative to the mudhugger which I’ve used, but after it took all the paint of my seatstays after one ride, was a little less than impressed with.

Mind you, still was completely soaking after yesterday’s ride.

I hate it, but there is nothing like a mudhugger for maximum protection.

It is a cantilever design and it does require secure fastening to stop it fretting the stays, as some people have found out. I heli-tape my stays and add another layer to the long, thin foot bed of the mudguard and ensure I use every cable tie point.

I’ve got one of the Sks rear guards and it’s an improvement on the mudhugger in a few ways, it has some adjustment via a rubber mount that sits between the guard and the frame and it can be fitted either with Velcro straps or cable ties

Topeak Defender XC11 here, the Mudhugger wouldn’t sit well on the stays of my Cotic. The clamp is pretty narrow so i’ve got it round the top of the seat-tube (under the seat-clamp), couldn’t fit it to the dropper.

+?? On the lots of frame protection before fitting. I accedenly used thin copter tape instead of thick on my full suss and after last winter the frame is a bit polished.

Last week a mate asked “why are you so clean?”. The rest of the group were thickly coated with crap. I was lightly dusted

I use a modified mudhugger. I cut a U in the part nearest the frame to have better clearance for my seat tube on my last frame.
Then I added a piece of inner tube that cover that gap, and extends down the seat tube. This stops a lot of the crap getting onto my rear shock as well as keeping my back clean.
