It'll either be crap or sound like every other stone roses track, so it'll be crap either way 🙂

Harsh.

New single will be crap simply because of the wave of expectation. It'll never live up to the promise/hype, because things never do!

I'm really hoping that it is good but have a horrible feeling that it won't match the lofty expectations.

Fingers crossed for the former

Never got on board with the whole Stone Roses thing, but it seems to be the one band most people of my age (40) seem to identify with

I did like Ian Browns solo stuff though and the tracks he did with Unkle

I'd be really surprised if it wasn't crap. People who still wear bucket hats and say 'aah kid' will buy it though.

I hope it is decent though, I liked the Stone Roses first album and Fools Gold.

I hope it's not massively over produced idea free zone like an Browns late stuff. I hope it's not a plodding indie idea free zone like all of squires post roses stuff. I have a faint hope that with Reni on drums it'll at least have some drive. It's the hope that kills you isn't?

They should just release the full length version of I Am The Resurrection and be done with it.

I don't think it'll be crap, just not very interesting. I find it's damn rare for over 50s to make interesting music.

They've had long enough to make it brilliant, let's hope they've worked hard and it's awesome. I'm secretly very hopeful.

I bought a Stone Roses album on CD just for one track. It was three quid in Fopp, back before downloads, otherwise I'd have just bought the one track.
I've never understood the fanatical adulation for this band, but then I'm bemused by the fanatical obsession with the Manics as well.
And Oasis.

I'm not expecting anything. It's rare for anything to live up to the hype these days. Musical releases just aren't the event they once were (in my life anyway, not necessarily everyone else's). I remember being underwhelmed by Love Spreads but equally realise how much it grew on me subsequently, as did the whole of The Second Coming over time. Indeed, I'd say now that Love Spreads is one of their finest tracks. So there you go, listen, like it, don't like it, but don't listen to self-proclaimed musos telling you how uninteresting it is...some of them even before they've heard it, they're that sure.

Oh, and I'll be in the Etihad in June, singing away to my heart's content remembering times with less worries, when we didn't really give a **** about important stuff, when "I Am The Resurrection" seemed like one of the greatest songs ever written (I realise it's not, but it was of its time) and music could never get any better than this. I'll probably text binners to check just how much of a haze he's in too. 😀

It'll be a long, dreary word, though.

I tell you, it is utterly amazing.
Not the song - the fact that they've managed to keep it from being leaked!
Makes it quite exciting to wait for release time 🙂

I fear it will be a disappointment. How can it not be after all these years?
The roses' first album was THE soundtrack to my days at uni and I was one of the faithful at spike island. Also got a ticket for the etihad in June. However I'll be taking the wife and teenage kids so it won't be quite the same experience as the last (only) time I saw them live. The new music will be great I hope, but it can't possibly mean as much to me as Sally cinnamon to fools gold did.
Second coming was shit though.

I'll be *ed out of my head Bravisimo. If you find me, I'll give you a massive hug! 🙂

You have to view the Roses through the context of the time, and through a haze of weapons grade MDMA. They marked the end of a decade of Thatcherism, miserable post-industrial decline, mass unemployment, football hooliganism and night clubs called Rumours, stacked full of nobheads out for a fight, and playing absolutely *ing awful mainstream 80's shite!!! And they became the poster boys for what came next. The antithesis of all that soul-destroying bollocks! And Manchester briefly became the absolute bestest place on the planet to be! Though the details of the next few years are a bit sketchy! 😉 I seem to recall that generally it was all a frightfully wizard wheeze

They can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Best musicians and songwriters of their generation, and unfeesably cool!

So there! 😛

It's not great, but, and I should have realised given that I'm reading a music thread on STW, it's nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. 🙂

Well, I thought it was pretty decent really. Slightly odd arrangement at the start with the triple chorus repeat thing but after that it definitely held its own. I reckon it'll be a grower and hoping that it'll be part of a decent album. Musically I liked it but the lyrics are a little sing-a-long

Mostly I'm relieved as it is nowhere near as bad I feared it might be.

Binners, you wrote exactly what I was thinking. The Stone Roses years coencided with my formative years. There's a fair chance we may have man hugged during the "briefly cool years".......possibly complimenting, in an inane, utterly off our faces way, on each other's stupidly flared jeans and hilarious haircuts whilst still, in the face of all evidence to the contrary, knowing full well that we were at the epicentre of cool. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.......

Be interesting to see how that goes down when I see them at the Ethiad. They're THE band from my yoof so I'll love 'em unconditionally, but they shouldn't have put that out. It wasn't necessary.

Ripe for a good remix.

The lyrics are ropey, but it has good rhythm & catchy chords.

I love the Stone Roses. Radio X have played the new one at least 7 or 8 times tonight. It's absolutely bobbins. I'm sad to say that I didn't have particularly high hopes.

As above. It wasn't necessary.

It was just OK really. Nothing too great, nothing too poor. Never really been interested in them. An old mate dragged me to see them at the Ritz in the mid-80s. They all had flat-top hair styles. That's the only thing I remember about the gig. Says it all really. That's the first time I've chosen to play a track by them...

Aww, that was pretty poor, I'm not even going to bother playing it again. I'll stick with the older stuff and surf the wave of nostalgia. As was said above, why did they feel the need to bring this out?

well....

pub band. (if I'm being generous) Not a great single, someone said it wouldn't have been out of place on one of their albums, but it would've been a track you'd skip over to get to the good stuff.

Squires is still a good guitarist

Ian BRown is still the man most in need of auto tune in the known universe.

Lyrics sound like a 17 tear old wrote it when pissed

FWIW I was/am a fan and saw them live back when they were first at it
Brown cannot hold a note. ...actually to be fair he can hold any note as long as its the wrong one.

I will agree that it is musically pretty pleasing, really let down by the cliched lyrics. It isn't any where near as awful as many are trying to make out, but is missing the magic of their past.

Thing is, that's what their live crowds want isn't it... you know, the la la la la-nah ner nanana singalonga riff at their gigs.
Ian Brown, clearly from his solo output, can write interesting and different lyrics, so maybe they're just pandering to their audience.

^^ Heaton Park was fantastic. And yes it was like a karaoke session for middle-aged men!

As for the single, it is over-produced and lyrically very simple. I do like the fact they have put out an energetic, positive song though. Also even if I could have written the lyrics aged 15, maybe a song about unity is quite powerful when all the ****ers are trying to be divisive to get power.
