Last night one of the jockey wheels on my Eagle X01 rear mech exploded.

Struggling to find replacements (or don’t want to pay the price of the ones I’ve found) but read somewhere that any jockey wheels will do.

Can anyone confirm that this will work or recommend any more reasonably priced alternatives.

    Cheers

There’s a known warranty issue with Eagle jockey wheels. Might be worth contacting whoever you bought it from to see if you can get it sorted free.

SJS Cycles have the updated jockey wheels with the flange that stops this happening. GX, so bushed rather than bearings, but cheaper than X0 ones.

I’ve had my GX eagle jockeys apart. They’re bearings.

Uberbike have them replacements listed on Facebook  but not their main site.

I’m hoping that NX Eagle will be bushed

You really need the new GX wheels with the lip on to stop the chain wedging into the cage.

I got them from SJS from memory, as above.

I had a jockey wheel de-bond from the bearing and wrote the mech off at the same time. SRAM warrantied it within a week.

Definitely get the jockey wheels with the lip on the lower one to stop the chain coming off and jamming between it and the cage.

Uberbike are coming out with aftermarket ones but they’re still £40 unless you can grab them in a sale. Also lack the lip but I don’t know if there’s any other change in the design that helps the derailment issue. It’s also much less of a problem on the x01 mechs as there’s less clearance between cage and jockey wheel.

Sram have also standardised the jockey wheels across the eagle range so they’re the same for x01 to NX eagle I believe.

All the above is correct, but more basically – the o/p

but read somewhere that any jockey wheels will do.

Not really.  You’ll get a result out of any old jockey, but the correct ones are narrow-wide and have a larger number of teeth than the standard Shimano 11T jockey of yore.  Among 11T jockeys it doesn’t really matter which ones you fit from a function point of view, but for Eagle or SRAM 11sp you’re a lot more limited.

SJS have the pair (12T upper and 14T lower) for £32?

Afte a few bad stories i was going to change mine for Uberbike jockey wheels come Monday when they are back in stock ,but  The Sram ones at SJS  have just been ordered  as the Uberbike ones dont appear to have the lip

Why does it matter how many teeth are on the jockey wheels?

More teeth = larger diameter. For the upper maybe something to do with the larger cogs, not sure. For the lower I can’t see any benefit. (That’s not to say there isn’t)
