South-East drivers

Graham – Do you know what the best thing about being a self absorbed dickhead is?
You don’t give a flying f__k what others think! 😆
molgripsFree MemberYou sound a bit wet
I know, but really I’m not. I’ve driven round Paris on the ‘freak, around Chicago on i294, all over London by car and bike.. those places can be pretty mental but last night’s trip was aggressive and downright RUDE.

I’m a driver in the South East and I always let people out of junctions, smile and wave etc.I’m a driver in the South East and I USE MY INDICATORS! What about that then eh?
TheSouthernYetiFree MemberDezB – I presume you mean your windscreen wipers? One swipe for right, two for left?
Loddrik – I have a spare room if you want to come and live in what sounds like your spiritual home.
loddrikFree MemberI’m a driver in the South East and I USE MY INDICATORS! What about that then eh?
Said with the incisive wit of Joe pasquale.
I don’t believe you btw…

This is about right IME, London is fairly good for driving round IME, people are often polite and let you in, certainly more so than my experience of driving in Leeds. Your right though, as soon as you go out west you hit a wall of lower middle management BMW driving, barrat house residing jumped up idiots who can’t drive for toffee and have no courtesy.
It’s that awkward level of traffic. Too much to bealbe to have regular gaps to pull out onto at junctions but not enough for it to be slowed to 12 mpg / 20 kph or less crawl when people are more likely to let you out.
Many things to blame for this but I’ll choose poor urban planning with sprawling estates encouraging excessive car use and reliance.
PimpmasterJazzFree MemberI swear the traffic would be fine if there weren’t so many idiots driving unnecessarily short journeys to get their fast food fix.
😈

“most people in the south east are ****.”
Racist. But thank you.
So the inhabitants of the south east are a different race to the rest of us? that explains a lot.
molgripsFree MemberYeah it’s kind of sad to see the results of these 60s car-focused new towns. You end up with a load of dual carriageways and roundabouts choked with traffic, and a load of concrete crappo buildings in between.
There has to be a better way, doesn’t there?
TheSouthernYetiFree MemberWell TJ. I posted some nutritional advice for my counterparts in Scotland, out of concern for their (your) physical well being.
I was told I was racist. So I assume that making sweeping generalisations about those in the SE, must also be racist.
bravohotel9erFree MemberBradford contains the worst drivers I’ve ever seen in the UK.
It’s certainly the only place I’ve ever seen a car mount the pavement, in order to undertake a moving vehicle! 😯
ianvFree MemberBradford is scary on so many levels. Wide boy wannabe drug dealers in evos trying to impress their mates. In some areas 60% of drivers have no insurance, in others you just know that any accident will be a set up.
PimpmasterJazzFree MemberIt’s certainly the only place I’ve ever seen a car mount the pavement, in order to undertake a moving vehicle!
Sounds like Slough.
molgripsFree MemberSo the inhabitants of the south east are a different race to the rest of us?
Yep. Damn Anglo Saxons robbing us Brits of our country.
Re the North, I also found it shocking last time I went up there. I think it was the M62 – not particularly busy at the time but drivers were arseholes, undertaking at high speeds etc.
PeterPoddyFree MemberAnd yes I know it was silly to drive for pizza but no-one delivered and I couldn’t face more hotel food.
Twaddle.
Dominos deliver, there’s a new pizza delivery place opened in the middle of town, and there’s another in North Camp, and Herbies on Farnborough Road…. Or is that Perfect Pizza? Could be both/either….
GOOGLED FOR THE HARD OF THINKING![/URL]I’m surprised you didn’t ask on here, you seem to ask about everything else…. 😉
Where are you staying now anyway, I’ll bet there’s one pretty close… 🙂And cycling down here is a nightmare. When I go out on road rides I can mostly stick to the lanes (which are excellent quality) and thereby miss most of the traffic, but if I have to venture onto the bigger roads it’s heart-in-mouth time
Say WHAT?? which roads are yo on about? For the timid amongst us Farnborough has a great network of cycle paths you know….
So to sum up, drivers in the SE are either:
a) retarded
b) c**ts
c) bothVery unimpressed.
You do realise that by driving in the SE, you fall under that banner, don’t you?
So to sum up,
driverspeople in the SE are either:a) retarded
b) c**ts
c) bothGee, thanks TJ. I think you’re a retarded lady part too. 😛

To ba fair, the Fanborough traffic has got a lot worse since that hateful bus lane was put in. 24hr bus lane when we don’t even have any 24hr busses FFS!
And, finally, now you know why I ride a motorbike (well, scooter) Traffic slaying demo available! 😉
molgripsFree MemberI’m surprised you didn’t ask on here, you seem to ask about everything else…
I ask about everything when I’m bored at work 🙂
Say WHAT?? which roads are yo on about?
Well in truth Farnborough isn’t so bad because of the cycleways and whatnot – the worst cycling I had was in Bracknell. Scarier than London.
As for Pizza, I much prefer Pizza Hut to Dominos and since it was so close and there’s parking nearby I thought I’d just nip out to collect it. If I’d known how wound up I was going to get by the drivers I’d have googled for a delivery place!
You do realise that by driving in the SE, you fall under that banner, don’t you?
Yes, of course 🙂 The OP was just a rant and not meant to be taken seriously, however I have noticed that basically no-one lets you out of anywhere, and at rush hour there’s more aggressive fast driving. And as a cyclist you get less room when it’s busy than you do in other parts of the country.
loddrikFree MemberOf course remember we northerners cannot afford dominos pizzas so delivery isn’t an issue. We have to make do with Asda pizzas, £3.40 for a 14″, bloomin great!
joolsburgerFree MemberI drive 30 miles each way from Kingston to Wokingham everyday
I am by far a worse driver than virtually anyone else out there. I usually dont even wake up till I get to the M3 so prior to that it’s all a bit sketchy, I rarely indicate, hardly ever wear a seat belt, I watch videos on you tube on my phone in the car, I also tennd to be slightly random when braking.
In my opionion this is all pretty fine really, we inside the m25 expect this kind of stuff and as I head for the sticks I’ve woken up so I’m slightly better. I’m really not agressive though, I’m almost always in the wrong so I tend to find myself being shouted at a lot. I blow kisses, it seems to infuriate the stressed.
Cars do have bumpers you know like pencils have rubbers.
PimpmasterJazzFree MemberBizarrely, when I commuted by bike from Zone 4 into Zone 1, I found drivers far more aware from Zone 2 in.
I guess it’s because outside Zone 2 they have to concentrate less because there’s less happening they need to be aware of, which obviously means it’s fine to text and have a chinwag on the phone.
PeterPoddyFree Memberhowever I have noticed that basically no-one lets you out of anywhere
I know what you mean, but it’s not as bad as you make out.
I just drive fast and loose to scare everyone out of my way. 😉
Seriously though, Fanborough is tame compared to a few places I can think of. The rush hour is also over and done with pretty quickly…. Not that I’m part of it leaving home at 6.30am, and I’ve only driven the car to work twice in about 8 months.
It was about 15 years ago that I relised that the car, as a means of getting a person from A to B swiftly, was dead and buried. We only use ours for carrying stuff these days, mostly.
scu98rkrFree MemberYeah it’s kind of sad to see the results of these 60s car-focused new towns. You end up with a load of dual carriageways and roundabouts choked with traffic, and a load of concrete crappo buildings in between.
Not sure if this is true, Bracknell is a new towns in the area the OP is talking about. And the traffic probably flows the best through this town than any other in the area ie Reading/Maidenhead/slough.
Plus there are proper decent cycle ways that you dont need to stop every 5 mins.
In fact I would say the transport system in Bracknell is excellent.
molgripsFree MemberWhat makes me sad about the new towns is the few token old buildings that’ve been left standing, reminding me of how things must’ve been once. I dunno if these new towns are necessary, or better than the old ones. Probably.
scu98rkrFree MemberI think the reason there are a few “token” old buildings as you call them is because that really is all that was there before.
If you look at an old OS map of Bracknell theres’s basically nothing there before the new town so its no surprise theres only a couple of token old buildings.
Things will change anyhow. The good 1960’s building (of which there not be many) will be kept and the rubbish ones knocked down.
Its not like all old building were great (especially if you lived in a slum) its just the rubbish old building were knocked down and only the good ones remain.
ElfinsafetyFree MemberTrying to pretend your all urban an’ ting. Don’t make me laugh.
Innit though? Cha…
hora – Bellend
…of course you need to keep well away from the Somalian drivers.WTF is that supposed to mean?
You have a tendency to mention people’s ethnicity a fair bit, Hora? Why? Care to explain?
I live in an area with a large Somali population, and I don’t understand what the fork you’re going on about. Do you actually have an intelligent point to make?
———————–
Molgrips- just go and live with Cinnamon Girl, and you won’t have these problems.
1.5 miles though- no sympathy I’m afraid. Top Tip: Get one of they big insulated baygs next time you’re in a supermarket, bung pizza in there, hey-presto pizza kept warm! Or fabricate something out of baking foil and a hessian sack. Camping Space blanket?
stumpy01Full MemberI always dread the journey when I go to visit my parent’s in Brent. I can go all the way from Peterboghorror way down to Apex corner at the bottom of the A1 and see very little, if any bad driving.
As soon as you get near Stanmore, down towards Kingsbury & then through Wembley the driving just goes to pot completely.
The worst thing is the ‘me me me’ mentality and lack of consideration for any other road users or ‘rules of the road’. It depresses me the amount of people who drive with the attitude of “I want to go that way, I don’t care how I get there or who I have to get in the way of to do it, no rules apply to me, traffic lights don’t apply to me, lanes on roundabouts don’t apply to me”. Liberal use of the horn seems to be the order of the day too – not moved off from traffic lights as the lights go red/amber – BEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEP………djgloverFree MemberWTF is that supposed to mean?
You have a tendency to mention people’s ethnicity a fair bit, Hora? Why? Care to explain?
Maybe he has a point, immigrants often have experience of driving to a lower standard on a different side of the road with different traffic protocol. Try driving down Southall high street, its a totally different experience from any other west london high street.
ElfinsafetyFree MemberMaybe he has a point, immigrants often have experience of driving to a lower standard on a different side of the road with different traffic protocol.
In Somalia, like India and Pakistan, they drive on the Left, as we do here….
And you say ‘immigrants’; I’d hazard a guess that the majority of divers on Southall High St are actually British. And would have passed their test in the UK. As will most drivers of Somali descent.
Therefore, I can only conclude that Hora is making a statement based on ignorance and bigotry. As is usually the case with Hora, let’s be honest!
Thanks for attempting to explain things on his behalf, but I think I’ll stick with my initial judgement based on his ‘track record’ on here.
I would still like to hear his own justification for his remarks, however.
thomthumbFree Memberyou know when you go on about it being harder for some to lose weight than others?
maybe the others aren’t driving to collect pizza takeaways? eh 😉
TheSouthernYetiFree MemberNah, all the stop start in heavy traffic is very much the motoring equivalent of high intenstity interval training.
molgripsFree Membermaybe the others aren’t driving to collect pizza takeaways?
How many times do I eat pizza?
What’s my total calorie intake when I do?
What’s my total calorie intake per week?(where’s the up yours smilie on here?)
😉
PeterPoddyFree MemberIn Somalia, like India and Pakistan, they drive on the Left, as we do here….
Oh, come ON!
In India they drive on what side of the road they feel like! I know, ive been scared crapless by it this year!On Dual Carrigeways everyone uses the outside lane becasue the inside lane is full of bikes, motorbikes, tractors, camels, elephants and god knows what else coming the other way! And as such , you overtake on the ‘inside’!
They simply live and drive a different way to us, and when they move here, they bring it with them. Young Asians born here tend to be as car-aware as we are, yes indeed, but the older ones are, in general, not up to the same standard as most other people. We get the same round here, but it tends to be Nepaleese (Ghurkas) in the main. Lots of them get jobs as bus drivers etc and are good at it, but many more are, err, “shaky” drivers to say the least! Generally not too dangerous becasue they go too slowly, though… 🙂PeterPoddyFree MemberAs an aside, Molgrips, you should go to India and drive round a bit. You would never, ever complain about UK driving ever again, I’m sure it would cure the driving complex that you have developed…. 😉
brassneckFull MemberOf course remember we northerners cannot afford dominos pizzas so delivery isn’t an issue. We have to make do with Asda pizzas, £3.40 for a 14″, bloomin great!
It’s made with that minging ‘Cheddar’ cheese though, we southern types simply must have buffalo mozzerella. The Asda pizza only has quantity on its side!
Why are they allowed to call it Cheddar when it’s clearly from some industrial unit outside Langley?
