Personally, it makes me want to lie on the concrete, point a 9mm pistol into the air, let off several shots whilst shouting “ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Well, it can’t be any worse than the original can it?

No way, brah! You can’t remake a classic. You can’t I tell you!

EDIT: Rusty Spanner, I’ll pretend I didn’t see that!

it is a fairly average film IMHO as is highlander except for sean telling us he is that spanish guy in his scottish accent, now that bit is great.

considering how far ‘extreme sports’ have come since that film was released it could be interesting… i’m assuming nitro-circus will all be cast in the film of course.

keanu hasnt aged so he could be in it again i suppose

as long as holywood leaves the classics alone, if they remade winnie pooh and the blustery day i’d cry.

    a fairly average film

No, it’s ground-breaking cinema at its best. Albeit with loads of utterly cr•p bits thrown in…

On this subject, my subjective opinion is RIGHT! DAMMIT!

“Look at it! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, man! Let me go out there and let me get one wave, just one wave before you take me in. I mean, come on man, where I am I gonna go? Cliffs on both sides! I’m not gonna paddle my way to New Zealand! Come on, compadre. Come on!”

Remake is pointless (no pun intended) the original is not that old and as popcorn movies go is pretty much perfect.

    Good news I think..

I thoroughly enjoyed the original but it dated incredibly quickly..

It’s like Top Gun without the planes. 😀

    erm…they just have.

John Cleese voice over and some of the characters have new voices too. Left my son to it and went upstairs to ponder the reason why, so they might not have changed the blustery day bit, and I don’t know if their addition of the beaver has been rectified…<sob>

It’s like Top Gun without the planes surfing.

Which is what made it so freaking good.

Random fact: it was directed by Kathryn Bigelow of the Hurt Locker fame.

Badly acted? Okay, fair enough – but not in a bad way

Bromance movie? Brah, it’s about so, so much more than man-on-man love. Levels on levels…

Top Gun without the planes? Sheesh. That’s like comparing Hard Times to Hard Target.

i now understand how you feel camo16.

Goddamn! You are one radical son of a bitch!

    and…

You crossed the line. People trusted you and they died. You gotta’ go down.

J, the new “the thing” apparently isn’t a remake as such, but somewhat of a prequel to the original(s). i’m intrigued by it but fully expect it to suck.

and this “point break” remake- ugh. whilst the original was hardly a masterpiece of acting ability, it was spot on for what it was and thoroughly enjoyable. the casting was absolutely perfect for it.

It’s up there in my list of films which don’t need remaking along with the following:

    Total Recall
    Robocop
    Planet of the Apes
    Alfie
    Arthur
    The Thing
    [edit] And bloody Highlander!

All of the above have either been remade or have remakes in production.

The real life model for “Brodie” (and his gang – Dave Kalama et al). The big wave surfing speech from the film is his, almost word for word.

Regardless of script, plot, acting and cast, some films just seem to ‘be right’ and evoke emotions which far supercede the individual parts, whether those parts be good or bad.

A few of my personal favourites which fit into this category are the two ^^ and off the top of my head……

    Animal House
    Roadhouse
    Rambo (only First Blood)
    Gladiator
    Master and Commander
    Oceans Eleven

I can understand re-makes when technical advances may improve the experience, or make it more realistic but the special effects in Highlander were adequate and a huge part of the success was the Queen soundtrack. I’ll definitely have to see the remakes when they come out and hope they improve on The Italian Job.

Point Break – junk, Highlander – the only film I’ve ever walked out of.

(I’ve vented about The Thing on a previous thread)

Now The Hitcher… why did they have to remake that?

Next up.. Bladerunner. (calm down, not really, just probably)

Awesome movie that doesn’t need remaking.

And most remakes are worse than the original e.g. Day of the Jackal, Alfie, Italian Job, Get Carter etc. Have there been any good ones?

I guess lots of people would say The Thomas Crown Affair was a pretty decent remake.

All I can think of are the movies Woody mentions, plus Cape Fear ad Insomnia. UUURRRGGGGHH!

    Point Break – junk

Sounds like trolling to me, philistine! 😉
