i’ve never seen highlander, is it about scotland?

It’s about immortals fighting for supremacy in a world obsessed with Freddie Mercury.

    Some Scotland action, too.

this is film where Keanu and the other bloke *don’t* kiss.

    Right?

Dez – considering your exemplary taste in music, you know nothing, absolutely nothing about films.

Next you’ll be saying Con-Air is rubbish.

    Um-hum. Yup.

Oh, and Con-Air’s good – but it’s no Point Break!

    Right?

I can confirm that they *don’t* kiss.

They do surf though. And sky dive. And rob banks. And yell at each other. Isn’t that enough?

I think a remake is acceptable as long as Bodie surfs a Tsunami.

I don’t care if it’s slightly bad taste.

can’t help thinking that if it’s going to be re-made with, I dunno, Keira and Natalie, there’d be some action….Y’know? 😈

Remaking Point Break is like remaking The Italian Job.

It may well be a good film, but there’s no way on God’s earth it will ever come close to the original, because it’s not the original.

I’d also put money on the storyline being more conveluted (sp?) to prove that the Hollywood scriptwriters were striking for a reason, and there will be loads more excessive ‘extreme’ sports action (just because they can) and loads more clichés that are actually meant to be taken seriously. And probably some Islamic fundamentalists, because America is fighting terror. Or something. And probably a CGI’d fighting robot or two.

Con Air? Maybe I should watch it again.

A media release said the film, originally directed by Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow, will be set in the world of “international extreme sports”. No one has been cast in the production yet.

Oh, FFS. So it’s going to be someone who flies planes, races MotoX, downhills and surfs tsunamis. Cue up a big air fight, a snowboard chase and a air race under bridges, all while robbing Fort Knox and living a pimping lifestyle in a plush crib.

Bandwagon? That’s Hollywood raping the horse.

I just hope Napalm gets the lead role.

As in “Knightly”? She was filming something at my place of work with Colin Farrell last year and is even skinnier IRL than she is on camera. I like a less fragile looking lass… It feels so wrong to be judging a woman on her aesthetics on STW, so I expect a ban any minute.

    I really enjoyed Point Break.
But then I’m not very demanding with my film tastes.

Too soon for a remake though. In my opinion.

Who on earth would they cast in place of Keanu & Patrick?
And would Anthony Kiedis reprise his bit-part?

It’s lame but I still liked it… doesn’t need remaking though.

I forgot to slag off The Italian Job.

An awful, awful, unnecessary remake which killed off it’s only charismatic character within the first five minutes.

in a pathetic attempt to fit right in with the STW “big hitters”, i have to add one word to this thread here:

    Bodhi.

    thanks.

Point break is a guilty pleasure of a movie for me – ridiculous and over the top, but nonetheless an enjoyable hit of silliness.

This seems to be an every increasing theme at the moment – the regurgitating of films that a probably best left alone. I don’t know what the reason is – is it a matter of economy, are film companies hoping that classic/cult films re-made will ensure box office success, is it a general lack of imagination – is there a lack of decent scriptwriters or producers etc?

Admittedly it was the trailer but I saw a few clips of ‘The Thing’ and was singularly unimpressed – seemed to lack all the suspense and tension that was so superbly generated by the original.

Oh yes! I still remember sitting in the cinema – the dog running across the snow, the John Carpenter ‘heartbeat’ soundtrack… genius.

Con Air is great precisely and entirely because of Steve Buschemi who is, in my opinion, one of the finest actors around.

If they screw up Point Break, the sign will be long gone before Hollywood gets around to Predator. 8)

I wish they’d remake total movie skidmarks like Secrets & Lies… when oh when will Hollywood see sense?

Point Break is one of the greatest movies ever.

People who disagree simply don’t understand. Take pity on them for they know not what they’re missing.

Hollywood is remaking it because the money men are so scared of failure they insist on everything being SOMETHING YOU’VE ALREADY HEARD OF!

Hence the diet of sequels, remakes and films based on video games/board games, TV shows etc etc.

    PS

Planet of the Apes was re-made, in 2001 by Tim Burton and starring Marky Mark. One of the worst films I’ve ever seen.

ermmm because the original (1967) was a satire with regards to the Bond series – so Casino Royale (2006) was not a re-make as such as the Bond series had never done a film called Casino Royale.

Point Break is a great film & Con Air is class because it deals with the whole plot during the credits leaving the rest of the film for action. Also it has John Cusack who is always great.

    Not true!

It’s a bit like 12 Angry Men, High Noon and Doctor Strangelove in that respect. A bit old maybe, but still nice and shiny… Not at all like Con-Air.

    Doctor Strangelove

over rated, bought the dvd as its a “classic”, black comedy my arse, laughed once maybe smiled on two other occasions. Not seen the other 2.

    Con air hmm.

any film that includes the line

young, dumb and full of cum

is a winner in my book

a remake just shows that hollywood has run out of ideas

con air is fantastic, must’ve been written on a friday i think:

right, the films ended… hang on, what about jims idea for landing a plane on a road in vegas? … **** it, shove it on the end and throw in a car chase or something.
