…in the middle of the worst recession since the 1930s, who is going to buy one?

People with more money than you (and me!).

There are still loads of people out there doing well and lots of retired/semi-retired types who did well out of the property boom and are now enjoying their final salary pensions.

    A rich one though.

Actually I was looking at Audis the other day.

They all had about 150k on the clock though 😥

Just becuase someone buys an A7, doesn’t make them a cock.

    I smell jealousy.

The obvious answer is those with more money than us.

true, I must admit if I had the cash I could definitely go for an A7. It’s nice and dinky.

I’d get my olfactory receptors checked if I were you. Either that, or do you spout bollocks all the time?

People with more money than sense, that are prepared to take massive depreciation just to have the latest must have status symbol. My 16 year old M3 is faster than the 50K version….

they aren’t advertising them to sell them, they’re raising the general profile of the brand so people buy their cheaper offerings. do you think audi made money on the R8?

You know, there are plenty of people around for whom buying an Audi would be making significant cutbacks.

‘cos that’s all someone buying an A7 is worried about…. 🙄

Audi Dealer: Hello, how can I help you?
Bloke: I’ve placed an order for an A7, but would like to cancel it.
Audi Dealer: I’m sorry to hear that. May I ask why?
    Bloke: Gachet’s got a 16yr old M3 and it’s apparently faster.
Audi Dealer: Yes. It is a shame we didn’t take that into account….

So what does it mean if you bought a Q7 then traded it in for an R8 😉
Would it mean that the depreciation on the Q7 was offset by the apparent extra value in an R8 which is supposedly made at a loss?

MD at my company has just chopped in his ‘old’ R8 for the R8 V10….! 😯

It’s a luxury car. If you can afford it, then why not..? I can’t and by the sounds of it neither can many others on here.
I once bought a car for £20k. Most I’d spent before that was £3k.
Had it 12 months and got rid of it. I loved it but couldn’t justify having all that money just sat there.
    Bought another one for £1200

People with more money than they need to survive spend it on items not essential to their survival. In other news, pope still catholic etc.

Not my cup of tea though. Maybe you could price it up in the equivalent number of malaria vaccinations you could buy for the same money, then get ‘This car is worth X human lives’ put on a bumper sticker. Would have to factor the mortality rate in, but if you limit it to children in Africa the mortality rate would be higher, and your bumper sticker could say ‘This car is worth X childrens lives’, which would be even cooler.

no more than someone buying a BMW makes them a ****

However, owning either certainly increases the probability that they are both a **** and a **** and a big *** ******** based on the evidence I’ve collected.

stumpy01, well aren’t you a smartarse. I was merely pointing out that the performance version isn’t particularly quick and things haven’t moved on much.

Is speed the only criteria on which you shop for cars?

Holy cow – just been on the Audi website. 300bhp Quattro only 191g/km – that’s impressive I reckon.

Not at all. For a family car I’m most interested in safety, interior and boot space, ride comfort and a bit of performance along with sensible mpg.

For a weekend/fun car I’d look for performance (0-60 and in gear acceleration rather than outright top speed), instant throttle response, good handling, satisfying exhaust and induction notes and good looks (which is subjective as have a soft spot for 80s and 90s motorsport inspired cars which were racing or rallying when I was growing up and my Dad took me to watch them).

Yeah sorry about that. Just seemed like an irrelevant thing to say.

Anyway, they haven’t bought out a ‘performance’ version yet, have they? Looks like it’s ‘just’ available with a 2.8 petrol or a 3 litre TDI.
I think they are putting their 5.2 V10 in the performance one (the engine that’s in the R8 and RS6).

How have things not moved on? This thing will have technology that wasn’t even available when your M3 was born. It will (probably) be safer, faster, more comfortable etc. etc.

M3 against RS4, yes perhaps. Make all the comparisons you want.
M3 against A7 – not really much to compare.
