    What’s your highest break?

I’m in the process of joining a local snooker club. They said as long as you turn up and play it’s fine! I’m not the best (think my highest break is probably mid 30’s)

Not played for years but looking forward to some frames. Any advice on snooker club etiquette?

    34.  I was really pleased with that!

Generally I’m really, really pleased with three pots in a row

If you can hit a long shot, and pot, you’ll go down well with the team.

If you can plan where the white ball will end up after your shot, to make it hard for your opponents next shot, even better.

    That’s basicaly it.

So if in doubt, play a safety when possible to knaker your opponent.

I played far too much through and just after my uni days, until around 2001, had a pair of those “Dennis Taylor” large square lens specs. Should have made my first ton, missed a sitter on 79 from ten reds around ’98.

Was a guy at Southampton uni in late 90s who was exceptional, he made the odd ton in Hampshire social club league matches, chap called Bob Cooper from down Portsmouth way.

Ettiquette? Don’t stand in the line of your opponent’s shot and try and stay still if you might be in their periphery.

Used to play on a weekly basis. Highest break was a 69. Used to get a 15 points handicap against a n ex-pro. Haven’t played snooker for over a decade.

Used to play regularly some years ago whilst at uni and we had a successful team in the local league. My highest break was 42 so not amazing on the grand scheme of things. But as long as you know your own limits, can string a red and a colour together then know how to play a reasonable safety shot you’ll win more than you loose. Its amazing how many people think they are Ronnie O’Sullivan and try potting balls from all over the table and will leave you in. We had several good cup wins against guys playing in the top leagues because we just played a very tight game which totally destroyed the way they are used to playing. In summary you’ll be fine.

I play with the FIL when I can but I’m still mostly crap. highest breaks probably 20odd maybe 30. Trouble is is if I think of where the cue balls gonna end up I usually miss the shot I’m on haha. Still enjoy it though, good way to relax with afew beers.
