SITS – Who did it ?

I did it, last minute joined mol grips in flying donkeys, really enjoyed it, riding rigid(ish).
Course was good, but I wanted some rain or the braking bumps to go away, there were lots of braking bumps where braking wasn't necessary in my view 🙂 I definitely took a battering.Great to meet some people off the forum and put a face to names, Postierich and a few others introduced themselves.
I think I even managed to show a few people that Jones's aren't only good for shopping.
Shame there were no prizes for biggest tyre, I think that was my only chance of worrying a podium 😀
Finally thanks to my team good effort under the circumstances.
dasilvaFree MemberI literally rode 'til I puked. DNF at 28 and a half laps.
After a troubled start I went for it during the night and got from 6th or up to 2nd. From the info I was getting I was only 10 minutes behind Roy Davies so I had a pop at bringing the gap down.
That was my undoing and after a few laps of pushing and clawing a few minutes my body didn't want to know anymore and packed up. By the last few hours I was crawling round trying to hang on to second and then I found a nice secluded spot to be very, very ill.
Big thanks to the Ragley Boys; Jason, Wayne and Dave for helping with pit support after they'd retired. Shame you guys had to call it a day but you've an awesome season, I think you deserved a beer!

Loved it! Very happy with our result as well. Men's pair – 32 laps 5th
117 miles each.I'm off to bed, bye!
You might have ridden up a section with me at one point, some chap said him and his mate were in 5th in the pairs. He had a blueish kit IIRC, I had "TEAM CAKE" on my jersey and was riding a Heckler.

Your 'death or glory' attitude, after 20something hours of racing, was a joy to behold. Proper racing attitude. Awesome. Next time I reckon you'll nail it! 🙂
molgripsFree MemberIt was quite brutal I thought, to try and ride fast. Lots of braking and accelerating. I did think some of the corners were far too tight and a bit pointless – making the course slightly longer very much at the expense of flow.
Very good otherwise tho – loved most of the singletrack, even the dusty bits.
And thanks to my team too. As a hastily assembled bunch of strangers, it was top notch, everyone got on (despite having arguments about geometry 🙂 ) and we worked well I thought.
Except me missing most of my changeovers (but only by a minute or so!)
joebickleyFree MemberI did 8 laps as a team that ended on 29 – were not racing snakes though so we were all chuffed with that
Our club had 3 teams and a pair, the pair came 3rd (well done lads) and mine and one of the other teams had a quality mini battle 🙂
Fab course, nice weather – roll on next year.
discbrakedivaFree Member1st time as a pair; managed a respectable 19 laps even though my partner went to bed for 6 hours! Felt brilliant doing it, feel like death now though. Brilliant course, really, really enjoyed it

Excellent weekend…MrFC solo-ed and did 19 or 20 laps(lost count).
I pit-bitched all night but luckily had no bike washing to do!! 😀The solo tent was almost deserted…no idea where everyone was.

Dasilva – Respect mate 28.5 laps is very well done! Unlucky on the DNF though!
molgripsFree MemberAnyone get any pics of the truly shell-shocked looking soloists on Sunday AM? Looked like even more carnage than usual.
joolzedFree MemberYep, did a couple of portraits of a few of the soloists, just working on them now…
RickyFree Memberno 57 here, 11 laps with a monkey on my helmet
I thought course was about the best 24hr course since Trentham.
This was my 10th 24hr,7th solo and first solo since 2005, now i know why i enjoy them so much,, its all the other people that make it from the riders on the track and the helpers on the sideline, cheers to all
Thanks for all the encouragement and comments on the monkey
Hope more people are aware of monkey world.
still open for donations justgiving.com/MTB4JIMdickydutchFull MemberFirst ever 24 solo for me. Managed 24 laps in about 24hrs 40 I think.
Really really tough. Hands are completely numb and arse is in tatters. I will be back though, but on a short travel full suspension.Well done to Mike though. I came across you on my second to last lap (I was wearing green and white infinity cycles kit) and you were crawling along even slower than me. Heroic ride that fella and a cracking attitude to have.
MidlandTrailquestsGrahamFree Member16 laps for me as a solo veteran.
15 on a fully rigid plus one on a hard tail.
The support from the spectators and words of encouragement form the other riders really makes a difference when riding solo, thanks to you all, although I do feel a bit guilty reading about pairs doing 32 laps without that support.molgripsFree MemberWhenever I made a few quips to soloists they just stared at me with that horrible vacant stare.. uncomprehending, withdrawn into their private hell.. I reckon that looked tougher than many other 24 hour races.
geeFree Member38 laps in pairs, 19 each. We won and came 3rd overall out of all the teams – we'd been 2nd for most of the race and got pipped in the last couple of hours.
I thought the course was excellent – Catton is the polar opposite of itself in the dry compared to the wet. Hopefully the curse of weather past is gone… I was particularly impressed with the prizes, which were easily the most useful things I've ever won – the first time in a long time they won't be going on eBay. Nice glasses, shorts and a pair of tyres I'll actually use rather than the usual 2.5" DH jobbies or two fronts. The nicest thing of all was the jersey in a sensible size that fits someone who is likely to win such an event, which was custom printed with SITS 2010 pairs on it. It made a really, really nice surprise after the £10 voucher insult at Enduro6 – I know we don't do it for the prizes (really, I don't), but that jersey will last forever and be a great reminder of a fantastic weekend.
It did seem a bit quieter than usual, especially at the top end of the field in the team races. Solo seemed to have a strong field. I don't think there was anything else on this weekend, was there?
Chainline – I passed you riding the fat tyred bike up the very steep bit before the bluebell woods – good going! Must have been nice to have the cushioning over the bumps…
The trade stands and stalls were a lot more plentiful than last year too – seemed like the event was growing again which was good to see.

mr_struFull MemberI'm another pairs who's team mate had to stop with knee issues – he reckoned it was the constant hammering from the bumps. I just carried on as if he was still going as the notion of doing it solo from 2am onwards wasn't in me. Quite pleased with our 17 laps given that.
Gee – know what you mean about it seeming a bit quieter on the course than usual. Didn't mind as it made it even more relaxed which is a nice thing.
Great weekend though.
helsFree MemberI rode in the Expert Women. We won, although it would have taken some kind of freak ee-ze up explosion or something for that not to happen as we were the only women's team ! Bit disppointing. We did it proper though and did all our laps, would be way more fun with some competition tho.
molgripsFree MemberI had a go on Chainline's weird fat-tyred Jones, and I've got no idea how he managed to put in such quick lap times on it 🙂
Would have been interesting to ride it through the singletrack. Although it didn't feel very responsive.
RikosheaFree MemberI loved the course, a nice mix of fast twisty singletrack and tight and twisty stuff, As i was solo i knew the best lines round and it was funny to see some of the others lines (especially where the saplings were)but all in all spot on, sooo different in the dry, nice one Pat and crew.

25 laps
8th place 😯mickFree MemberFirst solo event, no training and little riding leading upto the event. Set myself a target of 10 laps which seemed very conservative after I'd done two laps but then had what is a reoccuring problem with my hamstring getting very tight and sore on the third lap and despite having a massage and resting it only managed my target 10 laps.
Anybody got any suggestions for sorting out hamstrings, had a problem with the same one on and off for a while……sports injury specialist?
dasilvaFree Memberdickydutch, thanks for the kind words. Not entirely sure I remember you from the kit description – funnily enough a lot of people passed me that lap. 24 laps on that baked course though on your first solo is awesome mate, well done indeed, when the lap times are out I'm sure you'll be counting up the lost minutes and coming back for more!
rwFree MemberThis was my fourth SITS and it was a good one. I liked the course a lot, although I could have done without the long draggy grassy climb just after the start of the second half of the lap. One or two corners on some of the single track were needlessly tight but mostly it was fun to ride. I loved the short sharp grassy climb quite near the end of the lap, and the singletrack that followed that was really fun to ride.
My hastily assembled team was great – molgrips and chainline, thanks for riding with us!
The main negative point was some idiot taking me out on the fast gravelly corner right near the end of the lap. Totally pointlessly cut across me, clipped my handlebars and sent me flying. I have many horrible-looking cuts and bruises. Whoever it was – you could have at least stopped to check I was ok. Thanks to the St John's ambulance people for cleaning me up.
Apart from that it was great! Seemed very quiet compared to previous years though – a shame that the field was so thin as it's really a great event. Are the results up anywhere yet?
CookieFree MemberIt was my second SITS and first as solo and I bloody loved it. Can't walk now but it's all good. Set myself a target of 16 laps and ended up doing 18. I almost went for the 19th but just blew up on the last bit of the 18th lap.
A massive thanks to the massage tent that kept me going and all the support from everyone out on the course. Hopefully I'll be back next year in solo.
