I’m one of the lucky ones in that I’m flat out at work, so in my downtime I’ve been looking at road bikes. Looking to spend around £2.5k, I’ll be going for a bike fit etc but just want to look at some pics to pass the time!

My LBS (15 mins, 10 miles away) said to pop in and they’ll show me some at arms length and do a proper fit when social distancing allows, but I don’t really think I should be making that trip, even though I guess some are doing that to get to a place for exercising.

Unlikely to excite you much if your budget is £2.5k but I like it!

Rose Xeon Team GF, triple butted aluminium with carbon fork, full Ultegra with Absolute Black oval rings, Fulcrum Racings 3s, GP4000s with latex tubes for Sunday best duties, Specialized Phenom saddle, Ritchey finishing kit. Just sneaks under 8kg. I’m a big Rose fanboi as you can customise the bike when you order it, e.g. tyres, saddles, gear ratios, crank lengths etc which I think adds a lot of value.

Would love to throw some money at it to upgrade for some future European climbing trips but realistically it would be better value just starting afresh (maybe with the Rose X-Lite 4) to get something significantly lighter and a little more aero. Or alternatively just upgrade bits of the drivetrain and stick some Dura Ace wheels on it.

The handlebar position bothers me, I’m pretty much at the max height of any nice road bike on the market, but that’s what works for me, and at least it allows me to spend a bit of time in the drops, rather than slamming it and never getting anywhere near them.

I’m not one for taking many photos, so one from last summer by the Butser Hill roundhouse cafe that’s never open when I head to the summit proper…

Add weird, integrated, aero headset things to that list. Finally, a way to over-complicate the humble headset spacer!

I hate the looks of the cranks but can’t be arsed to change them. The only thing I have changed is the saddle.

You should always have the chain on the big ring for photos. This is my summer commuter and general riding bike. Not racy, but it goes ok. The Dura-Ace wheels definitely help and are a revelation compared to the cheap Fulcrums it came with.

This is my sorta road bike with flat 780 bars its a Brother Kepler. Bonus of something like this is it can take up a 700x45c or 650x48c so if you wanted you can gravel it. Currently running 32 or 35s I cant remember but it makes for a way more comfortable ride than skinny 25s.

This bike feels like a rocket ship when you stamp on the pedals.

My summer bike, I was hoping to have replaced it now but this little “situation” is hampering both the sale of this one and the purchase of the new one.
Making the most of it on my one a day rides though and remembering how good it is!

    my planet x Titanium thing

it’s a sample, given to me after the carbon thing died a couple of days out of warranty

made in the USA by Serotta. Lovely thing; wouldn’t want to replace it at all

The same people now make these https://22bicycles.com/pages/great-divide/, which are slightly more than 2.5k. If I had the cash, I so would

Genesis Zero Disc Z2.  My first road bike and absolutely love it.

Upgraded wheels to DT Swiss P1800 with Hutchinson tubeless, Fizik Cyrano Bar/Stem, Fizik Kium saddle and Mason carbon seatpost.  Will update the cranks, mechs and cassette to Ultegra at some point.

I’m not a Speclialized mtb fan but love the look of their road bikes.

Personally I’d get a gravel bike with 2 sets of wheels if I was to buy again.
Just remember that a road bike is for life, not just lockdown.

Trek have got some strong discounts on last year’s stock at the moment so £2.5K could get you a surprisingly good bike. There is a madone 9.5 for £2.6k if you don’t want discs, Emonda sl7 is £2.7K. Both of those are running DI2 ultegra.
