wondering what hose kit I need to complete a new build.

Was running RS685 levers/RS785 post mount calipers (from memory straight fitting with no banjo) bought as a set.

New road frame has flat mount so picked up some RS805 flat mount calipers.

Do I need BH59 or BH90 hose? Same external diameter I believe? Just internal diameter that differs?

Anyone done this? Any advice? Cheers in advance!

Shimano road brakes use BH59, mtb ones BH90.

Thanks Simon.  Is it as simple as that? I’m  sure I’ve seen bh90 dura ace hose somewhere?

You’re correct, dura ace does appear to use BH90

New Ultegra also uses the BH90 hose. The RS685 lever / RS805 calliper sets came with BH59 in the box. You can use BH90 with your combination but it gives a more on / off feel with shorter lever travel.

Gotcha.  I’m guessing because of the inner diameter.  Thanks for this.  I’ll stick with the 59 then.

Hopefully ill I’ll get the right connectors etc in the kit.

I might try that on my 685/785s as I’ve got stumpy fingers and need to run the levers close to the bars 🙂

Was thinking that myself Simon! Haha!

So it looks like I’m looking at a BH59 J SS kit.

SS is presumably straight/straight connectors.  What’s the J for anyone?

Sorry – was trying to see how quotes cold work without the old forum options – seems I can’t.

Also, it won’t let me delete either. POS.

“gives a more on / off feel with shorter lever travel”

It does give a more on/off feel, but it doesn’t affect the lever travel that much, and doesn’t make the free stroke any different. I swapped the rear on my road bike for a BH-90, but left the front as a BH-59. This seems to be a nice combo as it cancels out the difference in flex from different hose lengths.

Was thinking of doing the same thing, thank you for confirming the soundness of my logic :).

I’m using R785 levers with XTR callipers through Goodridge hoses.  It all works perfectly.  I’m also using R685 levers with a mix of BR785 and M9020 callipers trough goodridge hoses and again, perfect.
