who said the english were poor losers?

?. My opinion of Davies is well documented. It has nothing to do with any results; I just don’t care that much.
Being a poor winner is only marginally better than being a poor loser. Says things about character.

Moore – I used to dislike his one eyed view and it did take him many years to get over the 1990 defeat. However over recent years he has improved greatly and is far better than Davies now. I actually enjoy Moores commently mostly.

    Very true.

But mention 1990 to him and he still has a wee twitch 😆

Fantastic game I thought. I reckon France lost it tactically. If they’d have gone for it instead of trying to kill it they might well have succeeded.

Needless to say I am very pleased indeed 🙂

I think I might actually want England to win, because I want Stuart Lancaster to keep his job. As spectators we all benefit from entertaining rugby.

Was a good match, and well done Wales today and over the whole tournament.

JD’s poor- the worst of the BBC comentary team by a good distance, but to be fair, I thought he wasn’t so bad today.

I would have preferred Butler and Moore tbh. Moore went nuts last time wales won the grand slam. I reckon Nichol would be considerably worse than jiffy if scotland ever won anything.

Well AA, I’m Scottish so used to it,I take it with humour as it is only a game.IMO,you should enjoy your time in the spotlight.(Which I would be doing, rather than trying to troll on the internet.) However, one wee streak in the fake tan; as you will no doubt be well aware of,there are dark days ahead for the wrfu because of their inability to count how much money they have. So I would be careful about the usual bile you display about “hating” other home nations, especially England, as it will come back to bite you.

Lancaster must surely get the job now? Can we have him if England don’t want him?

    Well.

Wales take a well deserved GS with an overall great display of play, tactics, team spirit and general brilliance.

England – WOW! That is a result i could never have forseen this time last year, look what a new coach and fresh players can achieve. I can’t wait for next year now:) If that prat knob andrews gives the job to someone else i want andrews head on a pole.

    Ireland – what happened today?

Scotland – rose to their usual level again, always good to see TJ’s ‘New Dawn of Scottish Rugby’ fizzle out with another whimper 🙂

Overall i’m more than happy with England’s new spirit, now we have to crack on and try to match what the Welsh are doing because they are the team we need to emulate.

well done Wales thank you for a great game, well deserved but still some work to do. but its a new young team and future has never been as brighter.

hats of to lancaster if he doesnt get the job it will be a crime, next year could be a different story.

Scotland deserve more credit to be honest.

    Italy are getting there.

irealand come on lads sort it out.

On the subject of commentators – i might be in an English minority but i actually enjoy listening to JD. Yes, he’s biased but they all are and what JD doesn’t know about rugby could be written on the back of Scotland’s game plan!

C’mon Wales – do it for Merve the Swerve

    Then Italy and England hopefully

Well good day from my perspective. Didn’t see first two games but congrats Wales. On paper the best team, didn’t play as well as you should have done but showed how to win matches in the end. And that’s what champs do!! Well done England and Lancaster – pls give him the job, look at the reaction of the players.

Never realised just how poor MJ was until you see what SL has done with an inexperience team. As an ex-hooker awesome to watch that scrummaging. Even before Ross went off, England had the upper hand. And what did that do for Healey’s reputation. Ditto O’Callaghan – was he actually playing. Only Ryan should hold his head up high. At least he looked like he was caring.

Good championship – could have gone very different ways on that first weekend, but the best team won in the end. As for the bottom of the table……well!!!

    WHOOOP!
best game of the day I think (although that’s not saying much).
    well done the England scrum.
would have been nice to see Cole get man of the match – again, I think the award went to the more visible player.
unfortunate way to finish for Ireland.
seems the final table was a good reflection of the way each team played.

NOW, if only England had been awared Strettle’s try… 😀
it was a try you know.

I’ve looked at the table TJ, Wales won five games, England won four, France and Ireland won two each and Italy won just the once 😆

In the coming months we will see Scottish rugby scouts popping up in places as far apart as Alaska and Easter Island as they look for players that can hold a ball and run at the same time 🙂

Sorry TJ but this is just too good to pass up! 😛

People need to remember Graeme Rowntree’s input to this English side.
Lancaster’s done a fine job overall, but they won this game in the scrum and GR has proven to be the front row master.
I really hope he’s on the Lion’s coaching team – the best Aussie prop is Tom Court 😉

    Well the best team won.

20/20 hindsight and all but this made me smile.

Italy will facny beating both Engladn
    adnScotland.
France Wales Ireland fighting for the
    championship, England Scotland Italy fighting
for the wooden spoon is wht it looks like.

    Good point Loum!

TBH i was expecting this England pack to get mullered 6 ways to sunday at the start of the tournament, shows how much i know about that then! 🙂

    TandemJeremy
    Free Member

Yeah – but we won the coveted wooden spoon!

    So
Wales – the best team in the championship and deserved their #Slam for sure – but surely one of the easier slams to get as the rest of teh sides were fairly below par. Fought well and never gave up and dogged it out when needed.

England – IMO Lancaster set the right tone and made a team out of them again. desperately lacking some inspiration it the midfield but playing with grit, spirit and as a team. Lancaster to get the coaches job surely.

France – Shambolic in large and St Andre appeared to be unsure of how he wanted to play – and chopping and changing halfbacks does not help.

Ireland – time to rebuild. Losing BOD and POC just too much for them

Italy – nearly men again – pretty much closed the gulf and unlucky not to get the two wins they really need

    Scotland 🙁 A shambles

From the first selection I knew it was going to be hard. Edinburgh had just played a great game against London Irish with Blair and laidlaw looking masterful – so Robinson plays Cusiter and Parks with Morrions and Lamont in the centres. From that point on it was never going to go well. Over anxious and badly prepared with ridiculous selections and substitutions. Played to less that the sum of the parts. Robinsons refusal to play the youngsters preferring out of form or known mediocre players instead has cost the team wins and IMO damaged the confidence of the youngsters. Weir has kept Jackson out of the Glasgow side even when Jackson was fit and played well- but as soon as Jackson is fit Weir is dropped.

As a Scotland fan disappointment is a part of the package but to watch the best group of players I have seen for 20 years end up well beaten and demoralised is really sickening.

Robinson said ” judge me on results” – well mr Robinson – you have been found wanting.

Who the hell would want the Scotland job now though?

Whoever takes it will have their professional reputation hammered and it’s not even a nice climate!
Scottish rugby has a real problem with only 2 pro teams i reckon, the Celtic League has been a disaster for the game in Scotland – how many people go to watch Edinburgh or Glasgow?

    TandemJeremy
    Free Member

Muddy – actually finally Glasgow and Edinburgh are building a crowd. average gates still poor but over 10 000 watched the derby games and the Edinburgh / London Irish HC game and 25000 tickets sold for the HC 1/4. I have been watching the Edinburgh / glasgow games and the players are there

Its never going to be a top job being Scotland coach – but its a chance for an ambitious up and coming coach to make a name for themselves. Taking Scotland from a wooden spoon and 11/12th in the world to a championship win and 6/7th in the world which is quite possible with the players we have would look good on anyone CV as a springboard to a top job.

regardless of that – Robinson has to go. even if it means Sean Lineen takes the job

Very happy about the Grand Slam well deserved. I was blubbing like a baby 😆

Dear god 60 minutes of the england Paddy game was awful, then the Irish pack gave up and england scored a hatful. Manu T was wantonly reckless in that attempted assualt. Morgan again did very well will thrive at Gloucester.

Its been a great thread, a few bumps from a few sadsacks but I have enjoyed it, thanks to all.

I’m guessing that Scotland played that game again. The one that is truly appallingly bad that we keep in reserve for games against teams we should be able to beat. That is against the other game, where we play pretty well but obviously not quite well enough to win against good opposition.

We also retain the special game, the one where we play really well against a great team but still manage to narrowly lose.

Ah well the joys of being a Scottish rugby fan.

Been a great thread. See you all here next year and thanks.

I agree. Last year was dire, I remember thinking the standard was distinctly poor, but there’ve been some cracking matches with great rugby on show. Some rubbish ones too mind 🙂

Unsurprisingly I comPletely disagree. Anyone who’s watched more than a handful of games could tell he pulled that tackle having seen it was too late. He was committed and didn’t try to wrap the blOke up which would have made is worse. If sOmepne like tuilagi hits you no armed and means it; you aren’t getting up. I thought it a rare moment of clarity from our islander friend. Jolly well done Manu!

that’s how I saw it too wrecker – Tuilagi makes his monster shoulder tackles legal by giving you a bear hug while he’s doing it (something his brother’s not so good at) – to me it looked like he realised the ball had gone and pulled the tackle.
