Rockshox lockout remote. Any budget alternatives?

Picked up a set of Sids (2021-23) for a build, lockout version but no remote.

Not that fussed about the lockout right now, but maybe it could be a game changer, I never touch the pedal switch on my trail bike.

From the service manual it doesn’t look like I can just replace with a lockout top cap? Any alternatives? £40 is about as cheap as I can find for the OneLoc

There’s a lot of people that will say you don’t need a lockout but I love mine and use it a lot. Never had one on my last bike and really wanted one. It helps a lot on roads and smoother climbs.

What damper does your SID have? Could just get a topcap lever for £15 if it fits.

You cannot just swap the top cap to the lever type as the damper assembly is different – the lockout version ‘springs’ back to open, thus it needs the cable tension from the lockout to hold it closed. They ‘fail’ open.

The lever versions are unsprung and thus remain at whatever position you leave it at.

You can see the differences in the tech manual that the damper has a unique p/n.

My fork is from Scott so would have had the Scott twinloc handlebar cavle explosion thing going on.

Which would replace my existing dropper lever too. But I’m not £100 annoyed by it being missing yet!

I read somewhere that the suntour one works well, only costs about £20.

The only game it will change is your descending, as you can guarantee you’ll do a lot of it with a rigid fork as you forgot it was locked out.

exactly why it doesn’t get touched on my shock.

In theory, would an old grip shift or thumb lever work? If all it needs to do is pull a cable and not return. Probs can find one knocking about, and that might save me wasting money to not use

Might be worth trying an old LH 2x shifter. At least you haven’t spent anything seeing if you like having the lockout.

I like mine, round here there are plenty of easy tracks and road sections, and it does make a difference.

I used to use an old friction thumbshifter for my RS forks, one of these in fact:

just needs to pull the cable.

I use a LH shifter in 2x mode and it is perfect for my Manitou forks. Much better pull ratios than the OEM part actually

CRC had them for £14 earlier in the year.

I have no idea how incorrect this is but I tend to use lock out to save wear on my forks when I don’t need to bounce.

I did on my Fox 34SC. Just took the spring out too. Didn’t need to touch the damper assembly.
