you know the two inch thick stuff you get on trails this time of year. Is there a particular technique for not losing your front end? Is it just sit bolt upright and get over it quickly?

That’s what does it forme , no pedal, bar or brake inputs whatsoever. Relax and if you’re lucky you come out the other end without a broken elbow.

I find sitting in a cafe drinking tea is the best way to deal with ice 😆

absolute minimum input to bike, try to save any steering for any rocks or grass emerging from the ice. Possibly avoid breathing too.

    Don’t pedal

    Don’t steer

I’ve actually found the ice improves your riding. Because you know you can’t brake or you’re dead, i’ve found my riding is a lot smoother.

The best way is to yank hard on the rear brake, pop a foot down, push the back out and slid sideways across the ice whilst screaming ‘BANZAI!!!!!’ as loudly as possible.

    ….maybe

Low tyre pressure, sideways and feet out.

As others have said don’t brake ster, pedal or move you’re body and you may be okay. But it depends in the length of the icy section as if it’s only a bike’s length then the bike may regain grip before either end has time to slide out. It’s lilley you’ll fall off though 😉

So sitting in a cafe is indeed the way to do it

If its ice tyre pressure wont help you a jot. If its a mix of trail and ice then it will!

in fact, stay there all the time – if you attempt any riding you may get hurt or tired or sweaty or something equally indelicate 🙁

Stick ice tyres on, and carry on as normal.

I found that the other day whilst trying to climb on the stuff in the peaks if you put it in a much lower gear than you usually would do, thus making it very easy, but pedal faster the wheels just manage to grip the ice.

Such good fun, and such a reward when you manage to clear a section.

Blow torch attached to a 20mm bolt-through axle perhaps?

    Anyone at Fox reading this?

Think you’d need something considerably more than a blow-torch 🙂
