Right, not happy with my Shimano SPDs, don’t have a big enough contact area and as a result ramping over roots and through muddy bits seem to make my feet pop out unexpectedly. Grrr 👿 I want something like the Shimano 424/647 style, with a proper footbed, but not that heavy as i’m one of those weight-conscious types!

Any experience with the above, suggestions of others (Mallets? Atomlabs? etc)…

    Thank you

ah, should have said that i actually have some flats, but prefer being clipped in so i can “cheat”…no shame 🙂

curious, my xtr have never uncliped unexpectatdley over rough terrain, the contact area on shimano also feels very stable compared to some

time pedals have more float so may give more error for clumsy unclipping, mine were also slightly more slippy feeling but harder to clip in and out off.

    crank brothers mallet?
i have flats but have never put them on cos i love the spds…. The crank bros mallets were a halfway house, i ran Shimanos and hated them

try winding up the tension on your current pedals?

are your bindings or cleats worn?

might just be worth checking the above

pinches – yeah, i’ve checked the obvious, sensible to point it out though. I think there may be an issue with the pedals – probably due to age. Just thought i might gauge opinion on other pedals if i have to get some new ones anyway.

Also, i was thinking it would be handy to have some pedals that i can use with normal shoes as i tend to use that bike to get across town and the M520’s (or whatever they are…?!) don’t like normal shoes very much at all!

424s are good if you don’t mind black placcy cage – they’re either covered in mud or under your shoe so what the h*ll.

yeah the 424s are alright actually. i wouldn’t shell out the extra for the metal cage tbh.

Crank bros pedals always feel vaguely disconnected to me, i’ve got mallets and have no love for them at all. I got them because they engage easier than SPD;s, but at the cost of that loose vague feeling.
