Are you sure you’re not trying to run 24v tape off a 12v supply?

The really bright stuff is 24v.

If it’s definitely LED tape you are after, I used this one to light a pantry and it worked pretty well:

Longer than you need, but can be cut down ( or just double up for more light?)
