I could have sworn, one of my more recent issues of ST or MBR (for when stw is sold outof course) had a review of workstands....cant find it though....
not looking to spend a fortune, but willing to spend enough to get one worth bothering with (if that makes any sense) as i now see it as an investment, rather than a toy (need to sit bike with the swing arm off for a while, fettling gears with the bike upside down is getting tiresome)
its a pot bellied trance, so one that hooks up around the BB probably wont work, neither will one of those cheaper draper ones with two hooks that seem to be designed around "argos specials"
any reccomendations?
recent good value offers?
Many spanks team!

^^ wot he said from wiggle, merling or EBC.
I got the Ultimate Pro-Ultralight Repair Stand from Winstanley for £135 a couple of weeks before Christmas. It's a great stand but it seems to be £170 there now.
I'm interested in this as well. Like Olly, see it as an investment so should see me out.
There seem to be quite a few around £60 - £70, and then another load around £130 - £150. What are the mail differences and is it worth paying the extra if its going to last a lifetime?
Really happy with my Park PCS-10 (£99 from CRC). Solid, sturdy and really easy to adjust
Just wish I could get the legs to slide up and down properly.... but I think that's just me with a bit of a duff!!!
As with anything, you get what you pay for - the pricier ones have better clamping mechanisms and tend to bit more stable (and are more portable in some cases).
Got an Ulitmate pro-elite when Merlin were doing them at a silly price. Very, very good stand (not that I've used lots) but stable, light, great clamp - very easy to use one handed and the angle of the dangle can be changed easily, allowing you to get your bike at just the right angle

The union bike tool one is good imo - they use them at a local workshop/maintenance training place near me as well. Very good for 60 quid - you can get a version with a parts tray attached as well.
Oh and that x tools one looks identical to my union bike tools one.
Yep, I've got one of the union/x-tools ones and it's very good.
Although since I got one of these:

...it's hardly been used, as I can just do any maintenance with the bikes sitting on that, as the wheels/cranks are free to turn.
Another vote here for the Park PCS-10, as long as weight isn't a priority, I actually wanted a more heavy weight stand so this was perfect for me.
I have a Park PCS9:
Pretty cheap and works very well.
