“And the trend for silly steep seat angles doesn’t work with u-turn forks as it puts you in a worse position for efficient pedaling once the forks locked down”

Works absolutely fine. I’ve been riding around lately with the Mmmbop at the shortest 120mm travel setting most of the time lately, ace. Keeps the longer travel in reserve.

Out of curiosity, what are you actually doing when you’re bottoming out the forks so much?

Oh, in case this sounds like some sort of Ragley fanboyism, this is my third Mmmbop… First was too small, second was faulty and got put to sleep by CRC, in a very smooth and impressive bit of warranty handling. Think it’s a bit of a flawed gem, but I put up with the stuff I don’t like because the stuff I do like is so good.

I’m not getting this blowing through the travel so need longer forks. Surely you need more pressure?

Well you never know, he might be doing enormous drops or doing proper downhill tracks at proper downhill speeds. Or, he might have badly setup forks.

i have bottomed my 140s out on numerous occasions

my bottom has given out on numerous occcasions – I get off and walk

Brant the website stock/due dates update in the early hours every morning so if that dates been changed on the system today it wont show until tomorrow.

It still says end of March this morning.

    Something is broken.

I will get someone to poke it with a stick.

When I said I wished I lived in world where 140mm wasn’t enough on a hard tail I was of coursed to refering to my own lack of talent and perhaps just as important pain in the arches of my feeet. The combination means its unlikely 140mm wouldn’t be enough for me on a hardtail, but I can see the attartion of being in a world where it wouldn’t be enough

So who are people slateing here, with regards to a 160 / 180mm hardtail, people are saying its stupid and no need for it, so is it Ragley they are slateing for making such a frame or the customers that are buying them? there must be a market for them otherwise Brant would not of designed such a frame, Brant stated there was a great demand for a 160 / 180mm frame after the Bluepig was born

Northwind, thankyou. my fork sag is around 15% not what it should be at around 25% so i already run a hard fork, i do like to consider myself to be a bit of an idiot, and sometimes get alittle too excited when i see a big rock or near vertical chute.
Id rather sell a second hand 140mm fork for £100 than keep using it and snapping them in half and getting nothing for them.
So what do people think to this 10/4 that is being created 10 inch on the front and 4inch on the back???

it’s probably fair to say you’re not the only one to reach that conclusion.

wwaswas let me guess you idiot, you are middle aged and ride around on a specialized on the fire roads at gisburn like a stupid little prick thinking he is good for having a 120mm full sus.. oohhh and you probably let everyone walk all over you!!!

you need to find a way to channel all this anger RR, it will only wind you up further trying to vent on here.

re: fork travel – why would you not ride a fork that you bottom out a few times each ride – you’re just carrying weight around that you don’t need otherwise?

bikes I currently own have 0, 100, 120 and 140mm travel – they all reach the limits of their travel on most rides (particularly the 0 one) but I don’t think I need to buy a new frame each time as a consequence.

I’m convinced that a 160mm hardtail wouldn’t ride well. If full sussers are ‘boring’ hes not riding fast enough. Oh, hes gone.

I still don’t understand why he thinks a HT means more danger. Also not sure he understands how suspension works. Since when did bottoming out your fork mean you need more travel?

Or maybe he can’t ride foe sheeeet innit 😆

None of us moan about keeping bike costs realistic by procuring from Taiwan etc, and the subsequant build quality etc you get, but you do have to pay the consequances of being 1000s of miles away from the company you are totaly relying on to perform. My company demands high QC but I am there on hand to oversee it, we have also dealt with China and there was an issue with regards some units delivered and the fact that the delivery was 4 weeks late after the ship set sail. It even docked on the south coast rather than Felixstowe (I think)causing me even greater delays and expence.

At the end of the day…the sun is shining and poor RR is sat at home with 2k of parts, no frame, and maybe no real answer as to when his frame he has paid for will arrive. The thread has decended into chaos (something you would expect to see on Retrobike TBH), and this forum, generaly, is not like that, and we should all keep it that way. But come on start a tetchy thread and close it off when you get the answer you are looking for or even if you dont, 3 pages of **** spaming from many party does no one any favours.

PS:RR, LL in Bury will loan you a Speshitalised for a week if you are really struggling, they may even “ring” you a 224 and a 17lb carbon hardtail to satisy your particular bike needs, at least it will get you ready for when the troof lands !

Keep it real, the offer of the 96 CC still stands!

Find it odd that I have been captivated by this, but am also asking myself ‘Am I a Mug?’ or is this sort of forum chat very powerful marketing…..because I have just bought a second hand Pitch frame to build up, it’s not even built yet and after reading this I am now thinking I ‘need’ / ‘would be better served by’ a Troof or a Bfe……even though we are discussing QC issues. Does anyone else suffering from bike pondering indecision such and this and is this just the nature of bike geekery?

Also as a Design Engineer, I agree with the better late and correct rather than on time and wrong mantra.

I also would like to congratulate Brant on a calm, reasoned and in my opinion accurate response, late and right IS right.

It also shows the power of ‘social media’ and mass communication. Ragley and Brant will have learned from this experience and be able to take speedy action to ensure it does not happen again. Much better feedback than having to pay for surveys etc.

Finally, I know it was way back in the thread, but I have a 34lb full susser as well as my hardtail, and I don’t find it too hard to drag my ass up hills, like in Calderdale, I was there the other week, and indeed on non uplift race events in the alps with 1500m of climbing a day before hurling (slowly, I’m old) myself down the other side. Get fitter and stronger would be my advice.

Quite an enjoyable thread to read tho.
