Hi. I am trying to understand the parts that should be in place on a 2021 Raceface Ride crankset. I have a notched spacer on the drive side along with a thin plastic part which looks like a bearing cover. Then there is nothing on the non-drive side. I put it all together (bear in mind this has been on for 2yrs and working fine) tighten up the 8mm hex bolt to pull it all together and it just moves side to side by about 2mm.

Is the supposed to be other spacers on the non-drive side? The exploded view doesn’t show anything on that side. Anyone fitted one successfully?

While i am here, anyone have a link to the appropriate Hope 30mm threaded BB replacement bearings? This was the original reason for taking it apart.

    TIA

The Ride cranks are not 30mm so somethings awry here. On the left crank there should be a Stack of 1mm plastic spacers (3 maybe?) plus a Red squishy one. You can use the spacers on the drive side to mess with the chainline If needed.

Which bottom bracket (assuming hope, but you said 30mm and the Ride should be a 24mm axle so… checking) do you have and do you have the right number of spacers between bb and frame? Pretty sure the Ride is the Aeffect and is just the single squish washer on the drive side.

@benpinnick you may have actually built the bike 🙂 so I will bow to your knowledge. 30mm was a reference to the bearings I think but this is a secondary issue. The main issue is I took the cranks off to check the bearings, put it all back together (didn’t touch the BB) and i have play in it. I suppose something may have come.off the nkn-drives side and dropped on the floor but I can’t see anything shown in the tech drawing. Screenshot_20241124_144320_Drive

@Swanny853. I haven’t touched the BB just removed the crank arms. 30mm was a reference to the bearing size rsther than the BB and is a secondary issue as I need some replacements. Main issue is that now the crank arms are back on it moves side to side.

Do you have all the spacers/seals for the bb? If it’s hope there should be one each side over the bearing.

Will check the outer seal is still in place on the non-drive side. Thrown my toys out of the pram at the moment so will go back to the garage later. Appreciate the input, despite not touching the BB that outer seal could have come off.

Ok those are rude cinches, so the system is different. Iirc the spacers are stacked into that on big spacer except 1, that can float l/r to adjust the chain line for 51 to 52. I’ve seen crud in the splines hold the cranks up before. Worth checking. If your still struggling send pics to our email and someone will check it out for you.

Might just be not tight enough,

Those raceface cranks need to be bastard tight

Have sent photo’s over to Ben at Bird and will report back if we get a conclusion just in case someone else stumbles on the thread in the future with the same issue.

Update: I did have all the correct parts despite some dodgy info from Google searches. The problem was that I didn’t have the right tool for the job. Turns out that a normal Hex key and my foot isn’t giving the 54nM required to pull in the slack. Took it to Refresh Cycles in Hampshire and Chris took out his massive tool and torqued it up to 54. I am not sure I would have dared apply that much force, it seemed excessive, but it worked, and the cranks are spinning free and without wobbles.

Supplementary question – does/shoud the crank bolt have a washer?

(I’m trying to put together a complete chainset from leftovers, not sure if there should be a washer with this part or not. Seems weird not to, can’t see one on the exploded drawing.)

@Dorset_Knob, There is sort of one fixed to the crank bolt which I couldn’t remove but other than that on the bolt itself, nothing. I tried to upload images to show you the parts associated with mine but it keeps telling me I can’t because they are above 10MB (They aren’t) I will try again in another post.
