    He got a real pretty mouth ain’t he?

    You gonna do some prayin’ for me, boy. And you better pray good.

    I’m not sure I could cope with a re-watch, lol, once was enough!

    Although it’s worth watching for the Banjo/guitar scene.

    I remember seeing Ned Beatty doing a breakdown of that scene for one of those “100 Greatest Movies” shows. He was (rightly) very proud of it.

    You don’t even need to turn on the tv if you live in any of our rural towns.

    @Joshvegas

    We’ve only got a small river separating us from the characters in an area known locally as Shanghai. I swear I can hear the pigs squealing from here.

    This film put me off bike packing through the us, that and the wolves, bears & mountain lions.

    Our teacher in a geography class showed us the first 20 mins to explain the isolation due to the topology in the Appalachian region.

    I was brought up in the Fens. Lot of fuss about an overly long documentary if you ask me.

    Watched it a few weeks back, cos my partner had never seen it. Absolute classic… but man that squeal like a pig scene was more shocking than I remembered. Really grim!

    Got this one on Blu Ray. My dad had it on VHS back in the day and I remember sneaking a watch when I was 15. Solid film that still stands up today.

    Saw this on its first release 72/73 at the Picture House in Stone. A mate and I just rolled up because the poster looked interesting. Absolutely unprepared as 17 year olds for the story. I’m not sure I was even aware of male rape at the time. My innocence was abruptly shattered!

    never seen it before, so me and mrs ex-p watched it last night.  you know….. classic 70s ‘tense thriller/horror/suspense’ type film and all that.  she ended up going to bed early and i cant blame her, altho i saw it through to the end.

    i’d heard about the ‘duelling banjos’ and the ‘squeal piggy squeal’ scene and was expecting something really horrific and tense, and to be watching it through my fingers.

    i can imagine how it might have been in the 70s, but for me this doesnt stand the test of time, we both thought it was just dated cr@p.

    sorry.

    I can see that, when compared to some of the things contained in more modern films, this doesn’t cut it. But at the time…

    Guess with a lot of this stuff it helps to have a healthy dose of nostalgia too. Predator was on the other night.
