The Albert Hall event is being screened in cinemas around the country followed by a showing of the Dambusters.

    Also in Vue cinemas etc.

I am definitely going to be seeing it on the big screen!

Hopefully one day we will grow up and stop this rather pathetic celebration of death and carnage.

Do the Germans visit the East End and Coventry and gloat like some Brits do at the Mohne Dam ?

    I know cheekyboy. Its shocking.

Only last night I passed a group of Ewoks dancing, playing drums on dead stormtroopers head.

    I WAS OUTRAGED

Same old retarded view of War, the U.K. is full of crap like this.

The Albert Hall seems an odd venue, seeing who it’s named after, maybe that’s the point.  Such a good egg there’s a bicycle named after him.

I haven’t seen the film in years, but IIRC Guy Gibson’s black labrador has an unfortunate name, have they overdubbed it with something else now.

Paul Brickhill’s book is fantastic, one of my favourite books on any subject of all time.

The Brickhill book is great. Also like the James Holland book on the Dambusters.

Yup, it would have been far better to let Adolf and his chums just get on with stuff …. cos 6 million jews/ trade union/ gay/ disable people were just trivial.

Maybe you want to look at the freedoms you have today, and understand how close they were to not happening….

My uncle died in bomber command … killed on the 4th August 1942.  He was 25 …

    How old are you?

@swampboy it was on telly a couple of months back and had not been overdubbed.   I seem to remember the Peter Jackson remake (screenplay by Stephen Fry) has had the name changed to Digger

Old enough to understand the difference between glorification and solemn remembrance.

Not sure the film ever painted itself as solemn remembrance though, any more than any of the films of that era.  I think people just thought it was a good story.  Most people of that era understood what war meant better than you or I (hopefully) ever will.

While I agree with your sentiment, that was not the reason this country went into the war, or even continued with it.

However, you can do something now. Our govt is conducting a Welfare Genocide of the weak and vulnerable. They’re just a bit more subtle than Adolf…
