Right- to solve this i’m just going to email them.

    Any objections?

Hmmmm indeed. They’re a different item to the normal gift voucher – they’re still available full price, but the conditions don’t seem to say you can’t use more than one at once…….

Whatever the case, I’ve stayed conservative and got a £50 and a £20, costing £51 with the £5 for spending £50 discount also applied. 3% quidco and 1% cashback from capital one means £70s worth has only cost me £49, which is pretty good really, and considering I’m after a new helmet and pedals in the new year will almost certainly be spent.

(I’ve also got my eye on a £700 bike but didn’t dare buy £560s worth in case they can only be used one at at time. Will kick myself if it turns out you can use them all at once……)

Does, doesn’t it… I’m very tempted as I want to buy a new fork and it’s due in stock in a few days and I already have a £50 voucher on the way but I can just see me being left with it not in stock or delayed and nothing to spend the vouchers on.

Ultimately, both the vouchers and Becca would result in divorce for me. I should stay the hell away from both.

Good news about the multiple vouchers. Now im planning on spending 130 early on, but why did i get 13 x £10? Its going to take an age to enter all of their details 🙁

It does feel like a trap, or a desperate grab for cash to pay some bills. They were recruiting though, so surely they’re not about to go under are they…

Has CRC’s website been hacked or something? This has all the hallmarks of a none-too-subtle scam

They do seem to be discounting more aggressively than normal lately, but so are Wiggle.

Bit of a price war or maybe something to do with them opening their own bike shops (sure I read that) and so needing to boost cashflow quickly?

Why wouldn’t they borrow it from the bank in that case? The interest rate would be a fraction of 20%.

because selling things they might not have otherwise sold at a 20% discount will actually make them money I presume

all these different discounts and codes are doing my head in though

Guys, you need to read before you buy…

This voucher cannot be used to purchase Gift Vouchers.
This voucher can only be used once.
This voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other voucher offer.
This voucher cannot be applied retrospectively.
This voucher is valid for 12 months from activation.

These are NOT normal gift vouchers/cirtificates, they are basically just pre-selling a 20% offer, but making you pay up front. Knowing CRC they will prob have a 20% off offer after christmas anyway.

Er – 20% off is the whole point. And if there is a 20% off sale, then that’s even more off.

Er – no. You cannot use these ‘christmas vouchers’ with other offers, so if CRC offer a 20% offer after christmas, you cant apply that and then use your vouchers, not allowed.

Thats not to say they arnt worth buying, 20% off at any price if a great deal (since most offers at the moment are minimum spend) but you wont be able to add them to extra offers, other than reduction in listed prices.

They usually discount individual prices in their (constant) sales though, rather than using discount codes.

They might be changing their MO of course.

I think its all about the ‘codes’ now, you have to work for your money, and i think they are hoping people forget or dont apply the max discuount they are entitled too.

Ok – so what about purchasing £140 worth of vouchers for £104 and then using the xmas50 code to send you a £50 voucher as well?

Does that mean you’ll end up with the best part of £200 for £100 spend?

    whatgoesup
    Full Member

I hope so – I’ve just bought £130 of vouchers for £104, and used the xmas50 code – so I should have £180 of vouchers on the way for an outlay of £104. The xmas50 voucher though is a dicount of £50 on the next spend of £100, so this ends up with a total outlay of £154 to recieve £230 of gear – average discount 33%, not to shoddy considering it should be on top of whatever discounting CRC currently has at the time?

You can’t use the free £50 voucher when you spend £100 to buy more vouchers unfortunately. I had the same plan until someone earlier in the thread posted this.

    Just discontinued I reckon…

Yep discountinued. ffs bloody inlaws phoned as I had the vouchers in my basket, now they’ve vanished.

Ah well. Obviously someone from CRC watches these threads even on a thurs evening.

Confused as to why they’d discontinue the vouchers, it’s great for their sales, it locks customers into buying gear from crc, and ultimately they still control their prices.

I was actually in the process of suggesting to said inlaws that CRC vouchers are 20% off at the moment – wouldn’t that make a good xmas pressie!!!

I’ve just had a refund for one of my orders. I did two one with bits and vouchers and the other just vouchers. The voucher only one has just been refunded.

    yup,just had a refund here,bit p155ed off that they’re not honouring the deal,tbh…………..
still there’s other on-line retailers who’ll take my money,no doubt.

looks like my order is being shipped without the vouchers – apparently they are out of stock!

My order is still being processed. I emailed them today to ask when I could expect the vouchers and also my £50 off code and apparently they are still in the warehouse waiting for dispatch which is odd as I thought I’d receive them as an email code rather than something physical in the post.

I suspect CRC have realised the offer was a little too generous especially when used with other deals so have pulled it. I also suspect my order wont be honoured.

    chakaping

Same here. And no answer to my email asking if there’s a problem.

The Ts and Cs only appeared to say that the £50-off voucher couldn’t be used to buy gift vouchers, not the original £100 spend.

    ScottChegg

It’s taking cash against future despatches. Usually to free up cash flow. Once they have the amount they are after, they pull it.

That’s worrying; I wouldn’t have thought CRC would be edging their overdraft.

That’s an interesting take on it, ScottCheg.
I can see how it makes good business sense to sell gift vouchers, subscriptions and season tickets as it brings money in immediately, but judging by how long this offer lasted, I’d say it looks more like someone didn’t anticipate customers playing the system and compounding two discounts.
It did get pulled pretty quick.

Has anyone actually had their vouchers dispatched yet?

I cant see what the hold up is, usually when I order parts they’ve been marked as dispatched the same day or the day after. Its looking a bit fishy at the moment.

I’ll be totally honest, I bought mine purely to play the system – get 20% off £130 worth, add the £50 off next +£100 order code then order a £100 pair of shoes I’ve been after saving the £50.

If they didn’t anticipate people doing this and decide not to honour the orders, do we have a right to kick up a fuss?

    I doubt it.

Although I will do if they don’t refund my £100-odd quid!

I have had a normal voucher despatched (code emailed to me), although it is still showing as processing in my account history. The code works as I have spent it already. I bought the £1 voucher on Wednesday to make an order over £100, so I could get the £50 offer, but am still waiting on the £50 code to come through…

I can’t imagine CRC launched the 20% off voucher offer to increase short term cash flow. I would guess the amount of vouchers they sold has been pretty minor compared to their normal turnover. To me it looked more like an offer to get people to shop with them early next year, I would imagine most people would spend additional cash on top of the vouchers too. Plus they must see an increase in voucher sales this time of year, so it help them win more of these sales from the other online retailers.
