Just a heads up for anyone after an actioncam. Argos have reduced the price of the Sony Action Cam to £129.99. They state its the AS15 but you actually receive the better AS30 which has GPS etc. Probably best to ask to look before you buy if in-store as you can't take it back, or you can order for delivery and be covered by distance selling regs. It seems to be a national thing.

Bump for the evening crowd.
as used by Casey Brown *swoons slightly*
One thing I do notice about the Sony Action Cam footage is the large amount of barrel distortion at the edges, but the actual quality/video detail looks to be very good.
Is there an easy way to tell between the two models?
8% cash back with a Halifax card too..
DrP
How do you mean tell the difference?
How do you know if you get an AS15 or an AS30?
probably tells you on the box
Ah right, with you! Yes it says on the box. You want the AS30. I just asked to view the item before I paid to check it was the AS30.
how did you find out that it was the AS30, you sure they didn't just give you the wrong one
Its been all over hotukdeals for months, and I kept almost buying but didn't. Now the price is £129 I couldn't resist. Link to the hotukdeals thread here
£99 now.....
Vagely interested in this - what's the availability of mounts like? That seem to be the big selling point of GoPro's over anything else.
It doesn't mention anything being included as far as i can see.
It comes with a sticky mount apparently... PLenty of options on eBay.
I'm off to Argos to collect mine on the way home
An older thread on here had some good info on mounts etc and how GoPro ones could be used for the Sony cam. See below
http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/calling-all-sony-hdr-as15-owners-mods-upgrades-bodges
So it's a standard tripod mount on the case?
So all you need is one of these;

To access all the GoPro mount goodness?
Yes standard camera tripod mount:) that will be just the job
To confirm. Just picked up the as30 model for £99. 1/2 price 32gb card tok
At that price its an absolute steal! Really pleased with the results from mine. I found the cheapest place for the genuine sony chest mount was Cotswold Outdoors.
picking mine up this afternoon...
Memory card included?
no memory card included in the one i bought last week. Just a battery and a flat and slightly curved stiky mount.
what level of gopro are these equivalent too? cheers
This is the model you get, don't know the equivalent GoPro.

Is the sony chest mount any good? Looks ok in the link above.....
Sony Chest Mount is good. Probably no better than a generic £10 jobby off eBay, but I thought I'd go for the genuine version and no complaints from me. From what I've read it was targeted at the GoPro Hero Black
So how does this compare to something like the SJ4000 http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/2/3/the-sj4000-action-camera-review.html, which is still significantly cheaper? Worth spending the extra?
Cheers for this. Just picked one up.
I'm impressed for £99. QR code to install the app on the phone, then live view straight away.
Still not sure what I am going to do with it. The internet is already full of shaky footage of middle aged men cycling really slowly down hill.
Also thanks. I ordered one yesterday so will likely get it on Tuesday. I have a couple of wee projects I'd like to do with it...
POV into a gorse surrounded ditch?
Thanks OP got one today, didn't even pay as apparently I was due a fathers day present. Any more mounting or starter project tips welcome. My Bell super helmet has a gopro mount but I'm not sure how well it would work with this.
Apparently super heavy duty velcro is the weapon of choice for the helmet. Not tried it yet myself though, as prefer the chest mount angle. I bought a cheap handlebar/seatpost/frame mount off ebay for about £5 which seems decent enough. Opens wide enpigh to offer a choice of positioning.
I used super heavy duty velcro for a few months , the go pro mount solution seen in my pic above is so much better (less helmet in video etc) and much more secure and adjustable I wouldnt go back to velcro....
I'll get shopping then! Is it on Amazon?
I got the tripod to go pro mount piece from amazon ( I cannablised a muvi camera mount thats similar to go pro fitment) but now there seems to be even better options available cheap from ebay. Once you have that piece you can buy any go pro mount kits and it will fit:)
Picked one up today at argos in Preston. Asked at customer services to see it first. All good. Can't wait to get a dog mount and set scooby loose in the woods.
Just ordered one too. Do they come with a protective housing like a go pro or are they already ruggedised?
Separate case which isn't as waterproof as the case on the older '15, or a GoPro (as in not suitable for SCUBA depths, should be fine for bikes).
Not cheap or small enough ... Mobius is the way to go.
Anyone got some footage to share?
What are they like in low light conditions?
Might come in handy for those night rides where you stumble across a dogging spot..

Nice stack! Good to see the camera held up too!
Picked one up yesterday for Abigale to take on her Alps adventure. Ordered the mount fron Ebay to use the Go Pro stuff but not sure the chest mount will fit. Need to get her a card for it. Whats the maximum it will take and where's the best place to get them from.
Mine takes a 32Gb, and I was lazy & bought it from Argos for £17 or so.
Decided not to look on ebay to see how cheaply it could have been bought!§
Thanks will get one ordered
Has this ship sailed, can't find stock anywhere ?
I was surprised to find stock when I looked on Friday - no surprises that they've been snapped up.
I have been trying to find out the minimum requirements for the memory card.
Any one know what data speed requirements there are of the class 10 card?
Looking on 7dayshop I can get a sandisk 32gb 30MB/s card for £13.24 but the next speed up from that is the 80MB/s and that one is a whopping £31.99
The only pics I have seen have had the Sony M2 card rather than a micro SD and that was a 40MB/ card.

I'm not convinced they're all been snapped up. They went from available in all 10 of the nearest Argos to me to zero availability. Seems more like a rethink by Argos.
I've just searched all London stores, can't find any. Anyone know of any stock?

Ah - that is possible I guess - exactly the same happened here. That or there's something funny about the way they're showing stock for this.
I rang the helpline.
I think one in Pontadarwe? one in Stornoway and all of Ireland have stock.
Oh well...
I just ordered mine off their website for delivery rather than a specific store.
It says none available for home delivery, collect in store only. Did you order yours last week?
I didn't spot that part. I ordered it on Saturday. Initially I got a message saying I'd receive an order confirmation within 24hrs, which I did with an order conformation number. I selected delivery on Tuesday (it cost an extra £2.99) so I guess I'll find out tomorrow if it arrives.
I think when they run out of stock at the warehouse, they don't drag in branch stock, they just let it sell out, hence the stock being left in stores in the arse end of nowhere (no offence!). I have an AS15 already and have bought the new lightweight casing. Adapted it to take GoPro mounts etc and a custom modified chest harness. I just wanted the GPS feature of the AS30. I'm actually readying my AS15 for sale soon (any offers?). I want the AS100!
Apparently some more in stock at the following locations.
In stock in
Blackpool
Workington
Whitehaven
Carlisle (Lowther St)
Coventry (City Arcade)
Keighley
Burnley (Market Square)
Leeds Headrow
Worth keeping an eye on thisthread on hotukdeals as stock seems to be coming in.
Stock in a few stores in Bedfordshire now, my brother is collecting mine for me tomorrow 🙂
Picked one up from Hinckley on Saturday, shot this on Sunday

Good quality footage. Cannock looks like it sucks though. Needs a fat bike that does.
@kimbers-glad to hear you've found one. They're really good!
@Rusty-Mac - any Class 4 or above card will be fine, I'm using an old 32gb class 4 card in mine and it's perfect.
how much footage can u fit on the 32gb cards?
I only have an 8gb card and it reckons it can fit 1hr20 of 1080p @ 60fps. So 4-5 hrs at a guess on a 32gb card.
My 32gb says 4 hours 25 mins in 1080p or 11 hours in 720
That's mine just arrived today. The Argos stock labels clearly says AS15 but it is, indeed, an AS30.
Touched it to my new (Sony) phone with NFC and it automatically downloaded the Android software. one password later and I have a remote view for the camera 🙂
I'm really impressed with the app.
Bought one of these on Friday. Not sure if I'll use it much though now. As it's excluded from argos money back guarantee, I would sell if I can get my money back.
It's been opened and tested indoors for 1 minute.
If anyone's struggling to get hold of one, I'll do it for £100 posted or £120 posted with a brand new 32gb sandisk ultra micro sd.
Well got mine but no battery !
Did everyone else's have the battery in the camera or was it separate in the box ? cheers
Separate - in the box
andyflaw - dropped you an email.
Sighhhhh off to the Alps on Monday, don't think I'll have a chance to get to Argos,
Just seen replacements in PC world so had to order for pick up on Saturday!
Are these now £99? Got them in the Blyth store.
I have one reserved at the Howard St, Rotherham Argos held till 1800hrs tonight if anyone wants it?
Res No 018709.
How does the camera link to the phone when your out on the trail
It uses WiFi direct.
Thanks. Does that mean I can use it abroad with the internet on my phone turned off or will I end up with a big bill.

I'm hoping I'm not missing irony here...
Wifi Direct disables normal wifi. Maybe take your sim card out when abroad because airplane mode disables all wifi.
