Our little boy of 8 months is in hospital and is pretty poorly. He’s on a close observation ward of four. The woman with a baby in the bay next to us has been shaking my belief in people being generally decent.
Not long after she arrived I tried to pass some polite comment and say hello but pretty much got blanked. Since then she’s been a font of foul and abusive language. Mostly directed at the hospital and the father of the baby’s lack of maintenance payments and general uselessness. Seems to have a complete lack of understanding for her situation and surroundings and the fact that the hospital staff may just be seeing to a seriously ill baby in the next room who may need to be tended to before they can deal with discharging her now quite well baby. It’s obvious to anyone I’d have thought that’s the ward is very busy right now.
We were also told to keep visitor numbers down and to avoid bringing kids here. Quite sensible in a room full of sick babies who need to rest. So we were little surprised to see her with about half a dozen visitors and a 2 year old kid. The kid is acting as you’d expect from a bored 2 year old and generally kicking off. Now there are play rooms for kids but she lets her kid have his tantrum in the middle of the ward. We’d just settled our boy having had a tough couple of hours of intervention and this wasn’t helping. So mrs blobby kindly asked if they could keep the noise down as our very sick baby was trying to sleep. The response: “he’s a two year old, what do you **** expect”. My piss is boiling now just thinking about it. When mrs blobby came back through the curtain we heard her say “**** bitch”. I had to be restrained. Mrs blobby is a social worker so is use to being called much worse in her job.
So what did we expect? More to the point what did she expect? That’s exactly what we’d have expected from a two old. From the parent though, i’d have expected a bit of consideration for a ward full of sick babies, especially as hers had been one of them. Take him out, take him to the play room, but do not to let him kick off I’m the middle of the ward. The sheer ignorance is staggering. Thankfully she and her baby have now been discharged.
Anyway rant over. Just needed to get that out. That is all.
