DD fair point, I think I am somewhere on the autistic spectrum and have no clue how I come across a lot of the time…less so in real life though…I just hope my jesting is taken for what it is.

I mean really, moaning about noobie roadie commuters!!??!

Fair point TJ but I still don’t see what was offensive about my big hitters threads or humerous pokes at Fred (and you) for instance…I trust Fred to be big enough (and you) not to be reporting them
    POSTED 27 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

I doubt anyone found it offensive, it’s just that you clog up the forum with what are quite clearly troll threads, and it gets very tedious. I might start reporting them too 🙂

You’re all a load of keyboard warriors. I bet none of you has actually had the bottle to do any of the reporting of posts you’re claiming.

what are quite clearly troll threads

This raises an interesting thought for me… why do people care if Al is sounding like a knob head… I guess you don’t read it if you think it’s clogging up the forum.

Personally I think there is room for Al to post his rubbish on here.. the ‘epic battle knob head’ line or whatever he uses… I like it’s tongue in cheek nature. If people think he’s serious, or even better if he was actually serious… that’s comedy.

To use the pub analogy again, Al is mostly like the irritating guy that talks in a loud voice all the time and won’t shut up, and isn’t half as funny as he thinks he is. Yes you can try and ignore him but it doesn’t always work.

Yes I posted a wanted ad in the for sale section a few months ago and received a ban (the warning delivered was on the ban itself when I tried logging in).

Last week I posted a wanted ad accidently in the for sale section from my Blackberry -now sometimes when you click on a header it doesn’t allows take you there on STW. Anyway if I was being cheeky I was being stupid as I received an auto-ban last time.

It was a genuine mistake and I received a 3 day ban. The (almost) funny thing was it was literally straight after I posted the ad on a Sunday morning.

    WTF? Crime of the century?

Then there was the ban where I mentioned Somalian pirates and posted up pics of you guessed it Somalian pirates. Elfin (wierd ****) took offence for some reason and obviously complained. I received a ban with the message ‘for negative use of the forum’.

I’ve never threatened anyone (interestingly two STW’ers have threatened me), I’ve not been racist or offended/posted anything offensive about any of STW’s advertisers and up until this year I’ve never been banned from STW.

Yet when people (myself included) gently pull your leg about using a spoon/fork to stick your brakes on a frame, you seem to miss the humour and get very hot under the collar.

Just because you think it’s funny doesn’t mean everyone else does.

I better analogy of this being like a pub?

“I think I am somewhere on the autistic spectrum and have no clue how I come across a lot of the time…”

Ah, the fallback excuse of the just plain bloody rude. It’s amazing how many people claim to be on the spectrum, when they need an excuse for their simple and easily rectifiable lack of forethought in speech and written word.

On here, it’s almost as endemic as people claiming to be dyslexic as a means to justify an inability to spell or to structure a sentence lucidly.

Al clearly has a lot of friends who post on here, and I’m sure he’s a decent bloke.

But many of us haven’t met him and we might not always get his humour.

It’s not enough just to say ‘don’t take me seriously’.

We’ve all got mates where the relationship is based on constantly taking the mick, sarcasm and fault finding but it just grates on here sometimes, because the non verbal clues are missing and the intent can be misconstrued.

For example, calling your mate a plonker and dragging up past indescretions in the pub on a Friday is fine, but the ‘Idiot of the week’ threads came across, to me at least as a bit off.

It’s all context, as others have said.

Ahh the “BS of the week” threads…time to resurrect those!

The thing that irritated me about the spoon-stuff and other bodge threads is that plenty of folk I’ve previously pwned (haterz as I call them, tongue in cheek) come out to flame me in picoseconds, when they’ve never had the ingenuity/courage to try stuff like that themselves.

Anyway I LOVE how theis thread has become about ME! 😛

you think claiming you have pwned people and jokingly calling them haterz wont have an impact on their behaviour?

Seriously, what on earth does this sentence mean? You’ve “pwned”* someone, so you have the upper hand in all things? Or is it that they’re not allowed to comment on your postings?

Help me out here, because I really don’t understand what you’re on about.

*Pwned: A truly **** word which immediately shows the user up to be a bell-end of heroic proportions. Or a twelve year old.

When you get poked back you dont always respond to it well.

Because it’s folk that I have proven wrong who have taken that personally and then have a dig at me for putting myself out there, trying something, or just asking questions.

Frankenbike and my disc brake mounts are running fine thanks.

nickf is a typical example – slagging me off for semi-tongue-in-cheek use of “pwned”.

Al, those ‘BS of the week’ threads, to me, are the equivalent of walking up to someone you don’t know in a pub and loudly mocking them about an overheard remark.

    Just unpleasant.

My final word on this thread, then I’m out.

I made the point that you don’t react too well to gentle humour, despite the fact that you like to poke others. You’ve come back with self-aggradising “pwning” and talking about “haterz”, which is, I’m afraid, fairly typical of your retorts. You’ve a thin skin, and perhaps you should remember that before you post comments.

Oh, and ‘tongue-in-cheek’? Sounds very much like you’re invoking The Caledonian Defence.

OK – the lesbian riders thread. Now closed to replies (presumably because it was offensive) but left on the forum (because it wasn’t offensive enough to be removed?)

    cynic-al

nickf you and many others have flamed me big time for my behaviour – my reaction here is well within proportion. You’re just having a go at me for who you think I am, not what I am saying.

Take it like a man eh?

its not overzealous modding, its the level required to attempt to keep the STW rabble in some kind of order.

if you want an example of how quickly the children can bring down a thread, take a look at my recent question based on sexuality of female riders. Based on my experience (last night) and intended to see if the same is found widely…. However threads about women and/or sexuality are dragged to the gutter as quickly as ethnicity, social status, political leaning, religion, child porn etc.

I suspect my home email now contains a warning/ban for starting a thread

    BoardinBob
    Full Member

Had two warnings in recent months. One for a joke reference to one of the best known internet memes of all time which I’m assuming went right over the mods head and he took it literally.

The other was for starting a thread with a link to a funny thread on another forum. I reckon my thread had about 40 replies which all found it hilarious (which is was and no offense was intended), one person didn’t like it who I’m assuming cliped to the mod.

Because it’s folk that I have proven wrong who have taken that personally and then have a dig at me for putting myself out there,

right so when you poke fun and ridicule them [ pwned]it is humour and then when they do it to you it is point scoring
You are not that daft , though you may be that emotionally stunted, to believe this – see humorous dig or due to pwning eh 🙄
Al you give it but you cannot take it or you are are ubber trolling …is not sure which

the lesbian thread was begging to be closed down, right from the start

what would disappoint me most about it would be if it was mIllski’s post that did it. even worse if somebody reported that post

was THE most obvious caricature in the history of the internet and funny as a result (even that username only came into existence as a joke)

Which side do you Bike for?

No offence but either you posted that topic out of naivety or you fail to realise that some people will see it as abit of a ridiculous basis for a topic. Therefore if people come along and trash the topic its hardly ‘children’ just people who (or can’t) take such a topic posted seriously.

Junkyard – I can take the slagging when it is justified….as I slag others when I see that as justified.

So if someone’s purporting to give advice but actually talking **** (I was going to give an example but that’s unlikely to help and would just drag things down…), being self righteous etc. then I’ll have a go.

If someone’s got a bodge idea, I don’t jump in and flame them when I don’t actually know any more than they do about it (you did this recently to me BTW).

scaredypants/hora – ive no intention of discussing the threads details here, except to highlight that there are many topics that the STW masses cannont discuss sensibly, or ignore quietly.

the intent of the OP is then decided on mass, based on a couple of hundred characters of text.

My OP could only have been reported for ‘trolling’ which it was not meant as, but several of the replies were overstepping the mark.

Other examples of moderation above, however, seem at first glance to be a bit harsh – if thats due to posters reporting posts or direct moderator intervention I dont know.
