I’ve posted on here for years. I was banned a few times many years ago for posting direct links to porn or goatse, hey it made me laugh. but in the last 6 months i have been banned for posting on a post that shouldn’t have been here. i was banned op wasn’t. discussion was that i was wrong, and there was no discussion. I really don’t care, but imho the modding in here is unbelievably pious and has no actual basis on actual rules or guidelines. Either something is wrong and deserves a banning, OR its ok and we let it go.

Indeed – its completely inconsistent. This is the issue and its changed recently – there appears to be one or more mods who gets teh banhammer out very easily and its inconsistent with others. So not only doews it depend on who you are but it depends which mod sees a report that depends on what you get banned for. -or that is the appearence. certainly I have reported posts that appear far worse tha the one GW was banned for that nothing was done about – no ban no moddding.

The GW one – he gets banned for a post but the post he was banned for is let on the thread? If its worth a banning then how can the post be left on?

Its a thankless task for sure tho.

I thought it was bad form to slate someone who couldn’t answer back? Oh well, guessing it’s the only time some people feel confident enough. It’s normal for opinionated, erudite people to intimidate those less able to express themselves. It bruises egos.

Fred seems to be a double edged sword really, good and bad. I much prefer people who say what they think rather than those who sculk around in the margins.

Did you not read what Mark wrote? Seems a perfectly reasonable policy to ban GW (and S-A and elf) more readily because of their past history. For sure it’s not completely consistent beyond that, but the mods are human, and it’s really not that unreasonable.

I’m disappointed elf’s not here because I’m preparing to throw something he’s written back at him 😉

Obviously he does bring something, otherwise you wouldn’t be bothered……..you just don’t like what he brings.

I’ve never felt that someone should be banned because I disagreed with them/didn’t like them.

Well i got banned a while ago, for a reasonably funny joke, but some people obviously found offensive, i sent a reply, and explained my point of view, and got a good responce, thank you,

I think we all learn a lot of fellow forumites and have a good laugh along the way, we discuss all sorts, and sometimes disagree, but thats life.

Fred should be put in stocks in the middle of Lahhdahhn, outside a very nicely designed and constructed building with historical significance. Marmalade should be spread on his buttocks and a very large amount of angry wasps should be released by a bunch of Tory MPs. That’ll teach him for bringing this place down to his seedy level. This is now just a terrible forum-of-ill-repute. I don’t even care what he did, he is Just Plain Wrong!

Lurking, complaining and getting people banned could be more fun than anything else, ever.

It’s an open forum, fred like the rest of us has the right to his opinion (onion) and as long as the rules, which are clear, aren’t broken, I don’t see a problem.
Fred knows the rules and pushes them to the limit at times. Where’s the problem?

It’s not a case of like or dislike ernie. The fact is that Fred has been banned many times for various infringements of the rules, which lets face it, are pretty relaxed for general communication/debate.

i feel for the mods as it is not an easy job and I agree that whatever they do they wont appease everyone.
Sometimes it is hard for people to see the reason though let alone form an opinion on it. This is what seems to cause most debates …confusion not disagreeing
I got banned once for arguing no bad language just arguing – they did have a point to be fair. I also got banned for swear word avoidance though you could type the swear word. During the clamp down. The mods did respond/chat though on my second banning and warned me first time but I had not checked e-mail. Not saying I agree with either but they were reasonable when they did it.

Let’s see – I’ve been banned twice.

Once for use of the word **** (in a completely non-racist fashion). I thought I was pretty hard done to on that occasion, but it was around the time of the appearance of the BNP on Question Time and sensitivities might have been high.

I also got banned for posting images on some of Elfs threads as he was, at that point, doing the same to disrupt other threads he’d taken the huff over. He didn’t get a ban for that though…..

At the end of the day, it’s not that hard to stay out of trouble. Just remember there are no visual clues to “soften/modify” the written word and treat everyone with a bit of respect. If you really don’t get on with someone, use the blocking script or just learn to turn a blind eye.

To be fair that’s happened to me on more than one occasion – I’ve been banned for my earthy language, as my bans inevitably are, but the “offending” posts have been left unmoderated.

TBH it just makes me smile – I think to myself “they’re taking the piss” 😀

I was trying to demonstrate just how good I could be at the job. Honestly, what do I have to do to get the power of the ban hammer?

why anti blocking? Dont you know people in the real world you cross the road to avoid talking to them. Same thing though i only have two folk on my list.

Not really. It was useful in filtering out lots of images and stuff I had no intention of looking at and were only being used to disrupt an otherwise engaging thread.
