Out with the old Soul, in with the new – Piccies

Well the BFe went and the Custard Soul (3&1/2 years of faithful service).

I decided that the need for play bike as big/capable as the BFe was unfounded (too old and no skill) 😳

So ordered a new Soul in Black with wrap decals, sold the Custard one, Pikes are up for sale and bought some Rev teams U turns off On-one and here it is.

Trying double and bash for a bit and the forks are running 20 psi more in the negative than the positive so only giving 140mm. Some Formula R1's are on their way from Frogy land and should be here for the weekend, which means with the Nobby Nic and Racing Ralph combo on some 355's it will weigh 23.9lbs (inc Pedals)

also got a short stem and some 710mm bars to try but they can wait.

The new frame has some quite nice detailing, you can see where Cy has tried to take very last ounce of of the frame.

Now to see how it rides round Rivington tomorrow night.

Surprisingly light. What size frame is that, as it looks dwarfed by those forks?

sweet as dave, sweet as. That's an incredible weight as well. Leaves less room for excuses 😉 ha ha.

What width are your bars now?

Interesting you've put the bash on, was thinking on my new one that I might go back to three and take the chain device and bash off.

Bars are 685mm at the moment, I have the 710mm FSA ones off the Alpine/BFe to try.

The frame is a small (16")

It weighs just 25.5lbs as is in the piccies. The NN/RR combo and R1's will shed the 1.5lbs difference.

I've got 140mm Revs, a 60mm stem and 685mm bars – I'm thinking of knocking travel down on the Revs a bit and shortening the bars an inch. The front end can feel a bit light on climbs and hopefully the travel reduction will stop it wandering so much.
I'd guess mine is about 27-28 lbs.
Love mine, it's a keeper.

I only used the full 140mm on my Custard Yellow one on rocky/steep drops most of the other time it was et at about 125mm

are your revs dual air, mine are u turn so travel adjust is just a twist (or 12) away.

This is my 2nd one. Can't imagine not having a Soul in some guise or other. Always seem to feel like the right bike.

Nearly, the inside of the non-driveside drop-out has been rebated, he has now added a removeable alloy hanger, which saves a few grammes as well.

Haven't got mine, expect to be finished by 8:30 ish or so. need to get home to pick the eldest up form the pictures.

sounds good to me, less to carry and all that! means i can give the bike a wash down before i have a shower too.

24-25lbs is light for a Soul – mine was 28lbs last time I weighed it. Your old BFe now has 55r forks (which weigh a ton) and bigger wheels and tyres and weighs all of 32lbs!

When it had 2.5HR on it and the Lyriks it was over 30lbs. Ideal for bashing through anything in the way riding

At that weight and with those forks it should feel a lot more planted than the Soul Steve

I've done a few rides on it now (although not yet on terrain that justifies it) and it's feeling good. I've still not decided exactly how I'll build it up finally but I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up around the 30lbs mark as there is a good bit of weight to be lost in the forks, wheels and tyres.

Even at 32lbs it didn't feel too bad as they day before I'd been riding my SX and that nearly 2.5lbs heavier.

might be the angle of the photo, but I have the saddle pointed down slightly which might make it look slacker.

i'm 5ft 4" so it was always going to be the small.

Lack of gonad/Top tube clearance dictates it 🙁

Vortex, thanks for putting the pics up, it looks great! I've got to say though, I'd have been super tempted to go 1×10 on it, save even more weight and have less chain flapping around, making the bike feel a little tighter maybe?

I'm struggling to understand why you would spend all that money to replace a Soul with a Soul.

I ride a Mk1 very old Soul and I can't imagine a new one would feel any better.

Really like the look of your new Soul there. I sold mine last year and bought a second hand BFe off a mate, so it happens a bit, this serial frame swapping!

I'd have been super tempted to go 1×10

the problem I had was that the wheels are intechangeable with my Ventana X5, as are my other 2 sets. That would have meant 2 complete groupsets and another cassette. Which was way too much dosh. it will happen eventually though. 😉

The reason I bought a new one was because I wanted one, it really is as simple as that. Selling the BFe allowed me to buy it now.

Was out on it last night and it does feel a little more comfier than the old one, but that just maybe me and the new bike optimism. 😆

and all the money you refer to was £250 when the sale of the old one was factored in. So although not insignificant it's not a massive amount.

I think it makes total sense dave, because it looks nice
