This yin’s mine. It has new decals on the swingarm now though, and I wish they’d done that chrome silver when I bought mine.

ask1974 – That’s one of the best looking Orange Fives I’ve ever seen.

Thanks mate, cost a small fortune and I had a huge amount of fun sleepless nights agreeing the spec with my LBS, TBH I finally just thought what the hell and went with my heart. 18 months in and it’s still stunningly good and worth every penny. There’s something very satisfying about making the right choice, suits the way I want to ride perfectly and is so capable my riding has improved no end.

Rickit yours is lovely and I considered the Crome finish as well, very smart. The Five has a brutalist kind of look and will never be pretty in the way an ASR5 or IBIS is but then it’s function over form and I rather like it – the whole filing cabinet thing is hilarious… 😀

Bought this frame from the classifieds and used everything from my HT after wanting a Five for years. 1 ride in and i love it! (also shortened the cables since taking this pic :-))

@rickt–The guard on the forks is a Muckynutz best £5 I’ve invested in bike bits..

Is that the most excellent Ullswater singletrack @clareymorris? Certainly looks like it.

Note to self: Clean bike and take photos. 2008 Five over here in proper Mandarin Orange, love it.

Not been riding much lately though and nothing too massive so do feel a little over biked sometimes. Been daydreaming a bit lately about chopping it in and get an ASR5c to run at 120mm. Daydreaming is all it’ll be mind, no funds!

i don’t get why people hate on the poor five so much

Two reasons – firstly, because they can’t get their heads round the fact that something so simple and functional can possibly be any good; secondly, plain old green-eyed jealousy.

Yes, Oranges are overpriced for what they are, they always have been – but there’s a good reason for this – they’re well engineered and they aren’t produced in their thousands in a factory in Taiwan (well, the tubular frames are but that’s a different story).

I own four Oranges (an Alpine 160, a Sub Zero, a G4 and a Carb-O road bike) and I can’t fault any of them.

Does anyone want to buy a battered but sound 2007 Orange 5, 18″?

I’m mulling over whether or not it’s worth selling to build up my TDR bike.

Just for the record- it’s comments like this that make people rag on Orange- It’s not the bike, it’s the owners 😉
