Yet another lakes thread… I apologise

Heading over to somewhere in the north lake district (round keswick / ullswater area) but haven’t decided where to ride
So far I’ve come up with:
    Whinlatter loops 1 and 2
The borrowdale ‘bash’ loop, whats the BW over the hill to the west into Little Town like? (instead of the ‘allerdale ramble’
Doing the short Lonscale Crags loop (not as far as skiddaw house)
Some loop taking in the track along the south edge of ullswater. Is it best to go boredale or bannerdale? (short of getting up onto high street)

    What else?
And what state are they in? Wet grass field climbs aren’t a particular favourite

Thinking 2 from those probably. Or a proper length ride, possibly the back of skiddaw loop, but once past skiddaw house, is there a lot of smoothish tracks/roads/grass fields?

I’ve done whinlatter loop 1 before and the lonscale crags loop through threlkeld but didn’t do the bit into keswick (did the track from the skiddaw car park down to brundholme/wescoe, it was good fast fun in july, but it could be a bit wet now?

Be aware that whinlatter south loop is still not fully open (as of today), following the frost damage. No sign at the bottom but at the end of the main single track climb the top climb and good section back to that point are closed, so you just get the yee-ha open downhill bit back to Revilin Moss. North fully open though, and a good all-weather place to play. back o skiddaw will be wet, and the slate is pretty greasy in that condition, if you like that sort of thing. B’dale bash all good whatever the weather, haven’t been over to little town but it would be a hike up to the col by catbells to get to the descent, not rideable I don’t think.

We’ve often intended to try Cat Bells, but by the time we reach the Allerdale Ramble it looks a LONG way up 🙁

From Skiddaw House to Mosedale will be a bottomless morass.

The track over the col towards Little Town is deinitely Hike a Bike and you will most likely need your hands just to walk it.

Forecast is for snow, so low level would be more sensible.

With the weather the way its been today I would be staying on the Rocky stuff,This narrows it down a bit, If your not to familiar with the area.

Pooley Bridge,Roadhead farm to Moordivock would be good using the Bridleway west towards Howtown,This is usually muddy but is worth the decent.

The Ullswater lakeshore Singletrack (from Sandwick) is also good using the climb onto Boredale Hause (my preference) and back over to Martindale is a good loop.

The Borrowdale bash is always a good option but the decent via frith wood has been heavily washed out recently so take care!

Lonscale craggs is ok in the wet but can be exposed/dodgy in windy conditions

The decent from skiddaw carpark via spooney green into keswick is less muddy than the one you have done down latrigg, muddy to start and now rutted!

    have a good one! 😉

Depending where you’re travelling from 15 mins further south and you can ride from Grasmere, over the mainly rocky trails to Hodge Close/Claife etc.
If Keswick, I’d go with the ‘bash’. The BW over Cat Bells is hike a bike, but I quite like the descent – especially the rocks near the bottom – momentum being your friend.
Bash – Braithwaite – Whinlatter N loop (1) then back down ace BW to Thornthwaite. Sorted.

Over the A66 (from durham) so keswick/ullswater seemed the obvious (nearest) choice
