its ok so far. am rather shocked because hammond is driving the car that we have ordered. i don’t think they’ve ever shown a car that i do/am about to own. i thought i was watching fifth gear for a minute.

Maybe they’re answering all the haters from last week who want a proper car review. Sort of.

Thought James Blunt came across as a right annoying little sh*t! Had to press MUTE on the remote temporarily.

Nowhere near as annoying as some on here, and a hell of a lot funnier.

I only posted last week because Drac was frottering himself against the furniture in anticipation of the ‘haterz’ posting on the love in thread:

Yup just going to walk the dog then prepare for the people that hate Top Gear to watch it again so they can moan about it.

    See?
How could a sane man deny him the pleasure?

I quite enjoyed last weeks episode tbh, but don’t tell anyone.

I’m not a fan of Mr Blunts, I’m also not even watching the programme, but he alway seems to come across as a fairly likeable chap.

I’m no fan of Blunt’s music but his response to Twitter trolls is often genius.

I love that you’re not ashamed to admit you have both. RT @EugeneBarnardo: I love James Blunt as much as I love herpes.

Last time he was on he came across as very likeable and funny, on this occasion he didn’t.

he seems nice enough to me that Blunt chap. Rest of the episode was interesting-ish. Not sure the Stig pee and Somerset joke was so good, it was topical though.

    £17k for a 1 litre Fiesta!?

Was that a joke or a serious bit…!?

I like Blunt. He doesn’t seem to give a toss what people think.

I have some friends who know his parents, they went off skiing to Verbier and stayed in his chalet, they introduced him to me saying ‘He’s done terribly well in pop music I think, do you know James?’

You can get a Citroen DS3 for £12495, or a base model Octavia estate 1.2TSi, 105PS for £17,115.00
That’s a lot of money for a little car.
A DS3 DeSign 1.2VTi Cabrio is £14,475, and I much prefer the styling.

But it’s the top of the line engine + spec (ti-x) which is £17k (and from what I gather nobody actually pays list on Fords). You can’t really compare it to the bottom of the range Octy. 105 PS sounds pretty low for such a big car too.

The top of the range DS3 is £18.5k list BTW.

Blunt is redeemed* for this exchange with Clarkson on why he cycles rather than drives in London (not verbatim).

JB: It’s just faster, and healthier too.
JC: But I bought a bike, and look what it did to me! (gestures at paunch)
JB: You’re supposed to ride the bike, not eat it.

The Fiesta is expensive, but it is a genuinely good car. It is also very reliable. The DS3 is very pretty and somewhat cheaper than the Fiesta but I don’t advise you Google “Citroën reliability”- you’ll break the internets…

Hammonds sitting on the rev limiter whilst the police stopped the film car was utterly idiotic and reaffirms that they really don’t GAS about what they do to a) the environment & b) th cars they test.
But in all honesty thats the main appeal.

Blunt, I’m no fan, hate his formulaic music but admire his attitude in lifa and to his haterz, quite likeable.

I found the Ukrainian bit quite good actually, shows just how vast the country is and (almost) what it’s like to live over there, then the Chenobil ending was epic, the devistation ad decay.. excellent filming and a great number of “facts” about the devistation that happened there, and to my ignorance I really didn’t know it was in Ukraine.. 😳

Ford have really upped their game in recent years. Transits can be a bit dicey but their cars are generally very reliable. The only real exception is the 1.6 diesel (ironically a Peugeot/ Citroën engine) focus. They completely cocked up the installation of the turbo plumbing leading to endless problems.
The 2l diesel and all the petrol engined cars are pretty solid.

Upped it where? They’ve started making other things/not cars?

Shame that Jeremy Wade kinda undermined the ‘danger’ of visiting Chernobyl by spending a couple of days fishing the reactor ponds for his recent ‘River Monsters’ show.

When Hammond mentioned the price it did make me wonder what thought process a buyer goes through. If you don’t want to spend money on fuel then why are you happy to spend £17k on a car?

Top Gear is what Sky + or BT Vision etc was invented for. Fast forward the rubbish bits and enjoy the good bits. Means you can watch a program like TG in about 30 – 40mins usually.

The images of a deserted Chernobyl are not a new thing. A quick google shows that The Daily Mail showed them 3 years ago and I very much doubt they were at the forefront with them.

    I won’t be watching next week’s show.

Ford have never been rockbottom or top. Always where they are. People see shiny new designs and think ‘quality product’. Same with VW Golf’s etc. All are bloody average.

Then people see French and Italians as being wild romantics who are unreliable. Ironically the French really could show the British a thing or two about rail etc.

Hammond and JC are embarrassing. Sadly men will watch them and drive/think/act like them. May is just dull.

I’m pretty sure they weren’t trying to suggest that visiting Chernobyl was a first or unique they just used it as a place to drive to in 3 little cars.
