    Classic gap. Dreadfully hungover. Properly snowy. Some 3 foot drifts meant lots of carrying and half melted snow meant lots of hard pedalling. Top of the gap was solid ice. Did that bit on our behinds hanging onto the bikes. Frozen feet and numb hands. So basically a brilliant day out!

    Great photos. Never ridden The Gap, but this makes me even keener to do so.

    Feeling a bit shitty that my earlier comment may have inadvertently killed the thread before it got started (really sorry !) ..a guilt trip had me out locally so that I could add to it and maybe give it a kick start again ..
    These pics from the Pundershaw / Cairnglastenhope area of Kielder Forest..ground conditions were fantastic firm to crunchy after a really hard overnight frost which hadn’t given at all…

    Wanna go for a ride ? No?…just me then ..

    Not really needed as there was still enough natural light to see by..but just like the way it picked out the frost ..
    Fantastic afternoon ..one of those rides that you wish you had shared ..that nearly didn’t happen 😉

    @RD – I can’t stop watching that 🙂

    It’s a great route. In October it was dry, fast and only fairly breezy. That ^^ ride took over 2 hours longer. It’s only really two big climbs and two descents. But it can be epically muddy in places and the last descent – even tho it’s been sanitised a lot at the top – still can catch you out. Especially if it’s icy.

    We only saw one other set of tyre tracks and no actual riders which is unusual. Can be very busy with riders and walkers in summer. Good one to take a weekday off to do.

    First ride out today since Christmas eve that hasn’t been straight to the pub on tarmac. 😆
    It was a bit moist and I seem to be a bit unfit.
    No idea how that happened…
