Will there be free beer for us flat pedal users?

Pah, any of the ‘Proper’ SPD cleats, and not the ‘beginners’ ones (LOLs)

Yeah, got excited then saw they were multi-release.

Not that I have ever used multi release though, just been on single release since 1992. So then, any good?

No, multi-release are rubbish if you’re already used to SPD’s. Dangerous in fact, I had a set on my commuter shoes once and nearly went over the handlebars in front of traffic a couple of times, (binned them quite quickly) by yanking them out of the pedals when accelerating away from junctions.

Wtf! they release upwards? What sort of use is that then?

I too thought this was a somewhat odd choice. I’ve been using SPDs since about 1996 and the only time I’ve heard multi-release cleats mentioned is within a sentence like “don’t accidentally buy the multi-release ones”. I mean, some people must use and like them otherwise Shimano wouldn’t have made them for all these years. But in order to avoid lots of returns hassles for STW, I heartily recommend that any potential buyers check that these are indeed the ones that they are used to!

    I use them…

I’m mainly flats though so only have them on the gravel bike!

I can fall off on flats or spuds @tthew. Skills in all disciplines

I use them! My ankles don’t move in the right directions/with enough force to get out of the other varieties. Like @duncancallum I ride flats on an MTB (almost exclusively, but not quite. I rode a 24hr in clips, mostly because the bike I was on seemed far too racy for flats), and these cleats on gravel (and road, when I must).

Any chance of a group buy somewhere- Hope is the first to spring to mind- would you be prepared to go to them and ask for a discount for a large bulk order, and take a wee cut for yourselves?

I always used multi release and had no issues. They never pulled out upwards, but it’s easier to unclip if you are on the ground entangled amongst your bike.

I’m told the popping out upwards is more to do with worn cleats and pedals.

I will see if we can get some single release ones.

I’ve got three sets of spd mtb shoes and have absolutely no idea what types of cleats I have! I assumed any variance was wear but maybe I should check now.

Single release are black and multi release are silver assuming they are genuine Shimano

hmm. might multibuy be a thing? like get a supplier to offer a deal on a certain product if you sell 20, 30, 40 or whatever, take a few bob for stw and pass a saving on? not a sauvignon, that’s different.

I think they’re probably all multi-release then. Don’t recall any paint colours.

Multibuy… this is pretty much that. Coordinating a Hope order (for example) would be a nightmare… “who is the 48 hole purple boost XD hub for?”   Also we are not planning on competing with your LBS.

The objective behind this is not to make a killing, but to support Singletrack Members with money saving deals.

watch this space… well not this space.. but the front page.

Perfect, just ordered and also a calendar so now have a warm feeling inside, but that might just be bum butter (which I also recommend) 😉

I checked. They’re all silver… and they’re all single release. I suspect the colour went somewhere else.

Yeah, all my cleats have always been single release (SH51), but they’re not black for very long. They’re quickly silver, or rusty, but you can just about make the code number out on them usually.

Multi release have a letter ‘M’ stamped on them.

Thanks for getting some single release cleats in…ordered a couple of sets as I need to replace a welded on pair of cleats on my winter boots and need a spare set.

Ordered. There are definitely a couple of pairs in the spares pile, but the Five Ten’s want fresh cleats this week, not in Spring when I get my lazy backside in there to sort it all. More = better.

Cleats have arrived just in time for Abigales trip. Hope 2 packs will last her for 18 months riding.

Got my multi-release the other day.
Like @stwhannah my ankles don’t play too nicely with single release…..
Never had a problem with them unclipping randomly either on the MTB or gravel bike.
