Airdrop Fade? Bit spendy at £300 but it’s a nice looking frame.

I’m eyeing up a Fade as its the right sort of length for a lanky 6’2″

I had my Zircus out this afternoon doing skids and rad jumps and stuff*, it’s terrifying ace. It makes my mk1 Switchback feel like a supertanker 😆

    * of course I wasn’t, I’m 44 FFS.

I’ve got an Astronut (i’m 6’2″) and it’s brilliant! Feels really stable and fast on the pump track.

For around £500 for the full bike, it’s a right bargain too.

I’m 6’2″ and I went for a PBJ as it’s got the longest reach of any jump frame I could find. Plus I like clean looking steel frames. Alloy jump frames are an ugly mess!

Also, just after I bought my grey one, that chrome one came out. I was gutted.

i bought a cheap dirt jump bike but found a crack so went with the octane. Now it’s turning into building a bike! Fork wise what’s the set up? Trying to do things as cheap as possible. Can I just put an old Marzocchi bomber on there? Do I need a certain strength, like a fox 32 not being enough?

This is full mid life crisis build!

Nice sharkattack! Although how do you do barspins?

Bar spins are never gonna happen regardless of how I set my brake up! Plus the whole Tektro brake and rotor was 8 quid brand new.

Fork wise what’s the set up?

I went with X-Fusion because Upgrade always seem to be selling them off. I think they were £170. They’re perfect for my needs. Lightweight, air spring, plenty stiff enough. Vast improvement over all those old Bomber’s I use to ride.

I quite fancy building up a jump/dirt bike and that octane one looks spot on my only concern is the bottom bracket, I’ve got loads of mtb cranks so is there any way to convert Spanish to English bb?

I just bought a set of bmx cranks for £15 from eBay, bearings were £6. Think cheap bmx cranks brand new are only about 30!
Is there any kind of conversion to change the bb?

Bombers probably won’t be ideal. 32’s would be fine especially when you’ll be running them at around 100mm, I haven’t had issues with mine and it’s useful having air forks.

I’ve got 32mm Suntour Epicons with a 15mm axle at 90mm on mine and they seem ok and I’ve got some beefier 34mm Aions spare to go on if my bravery increases (probs not). I’m still getting used to the feeling I’m going to pull it out from under me every time I do a bunnyhop… It needs grippier tyres for the sloppy mess round here though, the K-Rads are useless on wet clay once they clog up. I was sliding all over the show yesterday in the woods 😆

I went through the same hunt last year and ended up picking up an Airdrop Fade frame a month or so ago, mainly for the longish reach, and have been really happy with it. I was always a steel jump bike purist before too.
On a related (stealth ad) note – I’ve got some Manitou Circus DJ forks on the classifieds – my OCD couldn’t cope with the tapered headtube / straight steerer combo so they had to go!

Looks like I’m not the only one that’s bought a trip to A&E in the Christmas sales! I’ve also got an Octane One dirt jump frame to build up. Got a bargain on some Manitou Circus forks on the Wiggle eBay account (minor scratch on the arch that I could barely notice and certainly won’t be the worst mark after the first ride, 50% off).
Hoping for a similar deal on a wheelset but that seems much harder to come up, particular with a 20×110 front hub – any tips?

I’ve got a few pairs of decent 20/135 wheels spare if you’re interested? I tend to panic buy spares 😆

In other news, we found some jumps through the woods on the way to Aldi the other day, so popping to the shops has taken on a whole new threat to our personal safety.

I got a bargain on a set of suntours so looking like I need to find a 15mm front wheel. Must be loads kicking around. I was literally going to put any old parts on this build but I’m now shopping for everything!
