@ bencooper – You’ve seemed to have left a reflector on your £6k super build.

At the other end of the scale, I bought this[/url] for £90 a couple of years back, swapped a couple of bits for stuff in my spares bin and it’s my favourite bike to ride. Think I’d be worried about riding an expensive bike, chipping the paint etc, would take the fun away from riding..

we got broken into and cleaned out last year, so time for a complete re stock once the heat had died down ( and a new very strong garage door fitted)

    I’m very much into

I don’t get into justifying things but I do think that there is an appeal to non mass-market stuff that is produced at high cost, and everything that comes with that. I’ve never regretted buying ‘expensive’ but plenty of cheap disasters.

So I have dropped best part of £10k on a Turner Czar and my very lovely Colnago C60 di2. Both bikes I intend to keep for a very long time and do an awful lot of miles on. so cost is high but so is value.

£750 on an Orange Patriot (2nd hand). Then spent another £250 on some new forks for it, so that’s a grand in total! Probably the worst bike I’ve ever owned aswell; went back to riding cheapo bikes after that.

Road bikes on the other hand……my current one cost about £600, but I’m working on a build that’ll see me well over £1000. They last alot longer though!

I’ve never had a lust for expensive bikes, just functional ones. I prefer to spend my money on coke and hookers, and nice trainers.

Most expensive whole bike I’ve bought was a Giant Trance on c2w and came out about £650 from £1500 rrp I think.

Last two bikes have been built up from parts and probably came to a bit over £2000 each as used what parts I could from the previous bike each time.

I earn very little, nevermind not having worked for half the year so far, so shall likely never join the stw endooro carbon bike and audi club 😥

My main bike is a Lapierre Zesty 927 plus bits and bobs on top like a dfender mudguard and chain device etc…so all in together about £6500.

In ’12 I was lucky enough to buy a Yeti ASR5c and Cotic Solaris. Probably £4600 for the Yeti and £1800 for the Solaris.

I now only have the Solaris and although I’ve been lusting after and close to buying numerous nu skool 29er full suss’ (Stumpy, Phantom, Smuggler, Following) in the last 12 months I’ve managed to resist. I’m mainly having problems with justifying the cost of a new bike.

Although the new Yeti SB4.5c might change my mind. Think I’ve managed to work out a £5100k self build.

Before I spend lots of money again and probably start divorce proceedings I’m going to buy a B+ wheel set for the Solaris. Which might change my mind and will be considerably cheaper 🙂

Not the time or place but I remember selling a USE Sub fork to a Police officer when I lived in London. He was nuts about lefties and collected them! A very nice bloke to deal with. He died not long after 🙁 RIP dude.

Had a go on USE sub at SSMM ~2006?

Loved it – do they still make them?

My last bike would have cost a silly amount about 2008-2010, but I’ve bought it 12 months ago as mainly NOS and some tax incentive :ninja: shenanigans for less than a grand.

    Inverse willy waving….

edit – testodugrecia? inspired me to get an alfine ebb hardtail

that means you only have 50 stw points, though I might add an additional 10 for changing tyres with the weather :p

Nope – USE didn’t make the cartridge internals, and they couldn’t get them any more. Other slight problem was that it was £900, but you did get a lovely wooden presentation crate with it.

It’s lovely, though – really smooth, and zero dive when braking.

Not going to get in a weeing contest but we got a cracking deal a few years back on our Ventana Tandem with S&S couplings. Didn’t really skip on bits, it was our wedding present after all. Hell, who needs pots and pans , sheets etc. make it something memorable eh?!
But having seen what it would cost to replace it and at current UK retail? Chuffing nora! Thats scary money.

Hey! I’ve got winter tyres, which are for 11.9 months of the year. I saw dry mud on the trails today, and decided to put on my ‘summer’ tyres.

    It’ll probably snow tomorrow.

Most expensive bike is half the price of our used car. When two best bikes are put on the roof, value is doubled.

Mountain bikes are about a quarter the price of my road (race) bike. It gets a hard life though – mind I did go OTB on the road bike last week too!

I suppose I have a few bikes people might class as super bikes.

Nomad 2015 with carbon rims and a new Mondraker Dune XR carbon with Enve’s

Cavendish Venge on dura ace DI2 with custom Zipps and a Colnago C60 Italia with super record EPS.

Its all going to change soon though as its house buying time ffs.

Hope you love the Czar – I’m just over 7000 miles on mine now. A very fast and comfortable bike.

Should have been £6000 got it new for £3600, it not what you spend its what you save. Smashed the frame in the Alps last year but Specialized helped out with a new one

Nomad, 5010, Chameleon, fatboy and a load of upgrades to my nice road bike.

Was it testudiogracia (could never remember quite how it went but it was something like that)? He always had high end but, errm, quirky kit.

I just plugged the amount my bike cost in 1999 into an inflation calculator to see how much it would cost today and apparently I can almost retire on its value. I still have the bike and until about 2013 rode it lots. It sits in my garage an expensive piece of wall art but still rideable.

    Anybody take a guess?

The most I spent in one go was buying an Ellsworth Epiphany frame (one of the early ones) and swapping the bits from a Cove Stiffee.

Took a while to admit it, but that Epiphany was crap.

It’s put me off buying expensive stuff.

My MTB is now a Saracen Kili Flyer, a warranty replacement for one of those 350 Genesis Grapil.

Part of me enjoys seeking out these kind of bargains.

I’d never spend 1000’s now. All i do is cycle around in circles for a bit of fun! Tried road racing, and even there I think a cheap bike is better given the number of crashes.

The more I earn the less I seem to have to spend on bikes 😕

Not actually sure what the most expensive is. I get a lot of pleasure from them and generally either keep them for years or sell for similar to what I bought them for, so like others ‘cost’ is high, but ‘value’ is higher. I think my 2011 Top Fuel was £3900, then I changed loads of bits.
