There is a reason for that, it just isn’t very good

It’s about an hour too long, both the main Irish dudes are played by (in real life) Italians, which is a weird one, and clearly Scorsese hasn’t any actors under 70 in his roladex, but it’s not bad per se, it’s just an Old Man’s version of the same film he’s been making for the last 40 years. It was still for all that, pretty watchable.

I just finished Ep 3 of The Witcher. I was worried they’d run out of stupid, but it didn’t disappoint, even more stupid than Ep 1 and 2.

I think you’ve very accurately identified why I’m on ep 7 and still watching…

I watched Wild last night, kinda like bikepacking without a bike but with a whole load of personal baggage, I liked it.

I made it to Ep 5 of The Witcher. Ep 3 seems to have been peak stupid, it’s been a bit tame since then. Lots of plotting but a bit light on action. The princess talks to a tree, Gerald takes a bath, Piglet has a really rough day at work and feels sad because a baby dies. It turns out the princess’s mum shagged a hedgehog, hence the magical powers. Gerald and Piglet make sweet love down by the fire. The bad guys are plotting bad deeds. I really hope Team Good Guys manage to get together and harness their magical powers to beat those baddies. The suspense is killing me.

Two films rounding off 2019 on the ‘flix.

Marriage Story – brutally honest and dialogue heavy divorce story – actually. Gripping, dark and funny.

Adam Driver and Black Widow fight it out with expensive lawyers.

Fighting with my Family – enjoyable true story of a Norwich family’s success with Wrestling. Very well put put together by Stephen Merchant. Lots of great Characters with some nice dimension to them.

Some great laughs and surprises along the way. Florence Pugh (from Midsommar) is completely believable.

Marriage Story – that’ll win loads of awards. I know this because I found it extremely boring. Made it to about the half hour mark, I think.

    Probably will.

It doesn’t really go up a gear but once they get past the point of no return the dialogue does get very acerbic.

Adam Driver is in that post-911 film – just turned up on prime called “the report”. That looks an interesting one. He’s definitely the man of the moment.

You’re in luck, the next ep is very much full on stupid! I’ve watched the lot, it’s very rare for me to finish a series tbh. Surprising!

I often hear there is better content on the US Netflix. What are we missing here in the UK?

Watched this last night. It was well worth the watch.

Started watching Vikings on Prime. On Ep4 of season 1. Can’t decide if I am going to stick with it. Anyone watched it?

Vikings is superb. Waiting for a gap in the festivities to sit down and watch the latest series.

Well, I made it to the end of The Witcher. A bit up and down over the last few episodes on the stupid front. Piglet and Gerald sulk, then have a make-up shag, then sulk again. They encounter serious misfortune, but Gerald dreams of his mum and decides to MTFU and take care of business. Piglet’s devastating magical powers turn out to be very useful in an utterly predictable plot arc. Gerald and the Princess have a big hug.

not sure if its been mentioned already, but really enjoyed ‘You’. just finished the second series and a very enjoyable watch about a psycho/sociopath/control freak that somehow you end up rooting for, rather than wanting him to get his come-uppance.

Started Messiah. Enjoying very much – sort of Homeland with Jesus and topically messed up politics – with the CIA on the case.

Gritty and well put together with lots of strands, characters and plot.

Enjoying all elements of it so far and don’t know where it’s going. Hopefully not 7 seasons worth.

Couldn’t sleep the other night so I started watching The Irishman. That put me to sleep. I finished watching it last night. Wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t great either. De Niro was badly cast, he just wasn’t convincing as a young man. The other aging superstars weren’t as bad, but probably would have been better with younger, more dynamic actors. Overall, just much too long. It could have been cut to half the length and been twice as good. Flashback thing didn’t impress me either, I think it would have worked better with a simple linear storyline.

Watched John Wick 3 last night.

Entertaining enough and featured some creative fight sequences and use of animals, but some of it felt a bit too video-gamey and formulaic. Almost like it’s turning into a TV series.

Watched John Wick 3 last night.

We tried to watch it, but got bored after the first twenty minutes of non stop fighting.

+1 for “Don’t **** with Cats” its incredible and I cant believe it wasn’t a bigger story at the time (maybe I just missed it)

Same, I have vague recollections of some drama with a snake and cat video but not any of the other stuff. The woman was a bit odd, she said her role was a data analyst but then seemed to claim to look after all the casino’s IT system – not something a typical data analyst would be involved with.

Anyone watching the Kevin Hart docuseries? I’m only up to episode 4 and my opinion of him is going downhill rapidly, he just seems a bit of a dick. Fair enough to him allowing it to be a warts and all perspective but some of his playing the victim for situations he’s been the cause of is pathetic.

Watched British thriller Calibre last night with low expectations, but it was actually a really good, tense film.

Finished it last night. I won’t spoil it, but it goes where most netflix series tend to go…

Now you see – that can be good and bad.

I’m really enjoying it. Quite a good blend of genres actually.

Lucifer is worth a watch if you want to park your brain in neutral. Good chemistry between the 2 main characters in a sort of Mulder & Scully way with Tom Ellis being particularly good. The first 3 seasons were commissioned by Fox before switching to Netflix.

I have just watched “Dont **** With Cats’ back to back.

That is incedibly thought provoking TV.
It makes you think right up to its ‘Inception’ finale. I know much of the impact is in the editing, but it is so well put together to achieve maximum impact.

It’s such a tragicly dark story reminiscent of the film Seven, but with teriffic social commentary.

    Watch it NOW!!

John Wick 3 seems to be a parody of itself now, pretty much just a 90 minute fight where the man cant die! That said I’ll still end up watching 4 😀

On a side note James May in Japan thing is on Prime now, watched the first few episodes very entertaining

Has Godless had a mention? Gritty cowboy/girl mini-series.

Brilliant little slow burner. Another vote for Vikings too. It’s a great series. In a similar vein Black Sails. A sort of prequel to Treasure Island, is also worth watching.

You. Watched the first season when it came out. Was instantly hooked but it petered out toward the end… wasn’t sure about watching S2 but stuck it on and I ended up rifling through the lot in about 3 nights, completely engrossed! awesome tele!!

Witcher got turned off half way through ep 2.

    ****ing with cats next.

For anyone that watched Occupied, season 3 has popped up on Netflix. I’m sure it was a Channel 4 thing before – but can’t quite remember.

Given the subject matter – I really don’t want to laugh – but I like what you’ve called it.

    It’s a great piece of engrossing film-making.

We really enjoyed ‘Before I Wake’ last night.

You lot probably won’t like it though 😂

Not Netflix but well worth a viewing on iplayer – Ladhood. Its brilliant! Its just 6 episodes and we did them in one sitting. Genuinely laugh out loud funny. A thirty-something trying to analyse the dysfunctional aspects of his own character and masculinity generally by flashbacks to his youth, growing up in Leeds

did em all in one sitting last night too! was instantly hooked. thought it tailed off a bit after the first couple but only because those 2 episodes (the fight and friday night) were absolutely class!! so relatable and LOL funny but some with dark undertones too.

That Schnecker episode brought back some grim memories too, from both time frames!!

the fella who wrote it has a couple of other things on iplayer too to check out, ‘Pls like’ and something else i cant remember the name of.

I watched The Brothers Grimsby over the Xmas hols, possibly the worst film ever but with some of the most cryingly laughable scenes!

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but we nailed Russian Doll in 3 nights. The first episode leaves you a little uncertain about which way it could go, but it’s worth going with it. Funny, moving, dark and thought provoking

I watched the first 2 seasons and its great.

Only watched the first one so far, must have been slightly miffing that Guy Martin appeared to have visited exactly the same swordsmith for his recent outing.

James May was shite at snowball fighting, too. Guy would have made a better fist of that one.

Money Heist is one of the silent gems I flagged last year. Absolutely great entertainment.

    Not seen follow-ups yet.
