Am I the only one who thinks this is completely miserable? Actually it’s 99% miserable and 1% funny, mostly the swearing.

Just watched the Dawn Wall. Mind blowing.

Didn’t realise until today this is the same mountain as Free Solo.

So what’s the difference here? (Apart from different climbers)

Love , death and robots was actually enjoyable. It was a nice take on things for a change. Giving triple frontier a go, and the madeleine mccann docu this weekend.

There are many different routes on that wall, Alex (free solo) was the first person to climb el capitan using no ropes. Tommy (Dawn Wall) was the first ever person to climb the dawn wall, leading climbing so no assistance from the rope.

Just finished After Life. Not greatly impressed by it. There were some funny bits – but some bits were just out of place I thought; the drug taking and overdose bits in particular.

We started The AO the other night. 3rd episode in and it seems very good.

Thanks for that. I watched Dawn Wall earlier and now on Free Solo.

Started to piece it all together.

Dawn Wall was an incredible story, very well done, with some surprising moments.

Love Death + Robots was fantastic. Anyone who enjoys 2000AD, future shock and twist in the tale type sf shorts will love this. Stand out for me was Alastair Reynolds’ “Beyond the Aquila Rift”.

18 sf animated shorts in different styles all 5-17 minutes long

3 episodes into After life and I think it’s the best comedy I’ve seen in many years. Almost comparable to peep show and spaced but maybe that’s just because I’ve not found a comedy that I like for so long. I love the contrast of the silly humour with the sad and dark moments. I personally thought the drug taking scenes were extremely well done and very realistic and thought provoking about how people use drugs and can become dependent and things can spiral.

Just watched ‘Get out’. Excellent. I’d say disturbing rather than scary with a couple of twists.

Love Death + Robots – moments of brilliance and something for everyone. Some bits NSFW (or young family).

Knightfall. A bit too much artistic licence in the way they treat the character Guillaume de Nogaret. (But it is a film story after all)

Afterlife was excellent. Proper lol’d at a lot of it !! Very touching in places too.

Just watched ‘The Night Comes For Us’.
Subtitled film with loads of action and brutal fight scenes.

The actor Iko Uwais from ‘The Raid’ co-stars in it so if you’ve seen that you’ll know what to expect.

Beautifully put. I think you perhaps have to have experienced depression either yourself or in a very close friend or family member to find it relatable, which in turn lets you see the humour, odd though it seems.

I would not normally watch Ricky Gervais. After Life is brilliantly written, funny, and tear-jerking at the same time.

If you’re only laughing at the swearing I think you’re missing the point.

Afterlife. Breast milk rice pudding and vaginal yeast bread. I will never forget that scene.

I can recommend formula 1 drive to survive on Netflix after watching the whole series over the weekend. A really good insight into the sport and the decisions around it from the same director as Senna and Amy.

It even made me consider going to Silverstone this year until i saw the unbelievable prices to watch cars go round in circles.

We watched After Life last night. Absolutely brilliant! I don’t know how he does it? Hysterically funny but with some moments of genuine pathos. A difficult mix to achieve.

One of the opening scenes, where the ginger kid calls him a peado, had Mrs Binners laughing so hard I thought she was going to have a seizure

I watched three episodes last night and was quite touched by it all. I think Gervais does a great job of portraying the character’s amount of ***** given.

Watching the last episode of After Life tonight and apart from maybe The Office, is definitely his best work.
Don’t think I’ve ever watched anything that can have me crying with laughter one minute, and trying to hold back tears the next. The whole cast are excellent and the vaginal yeast scene had me spurting Dr Pepper out of my nose. One of the few programmes that I can’t wait to see a second series of.

I wouldn’t, despite absolutely loving it, there’s no need for a second series, it ended perfectly.

See, I quite like Gervais as a human being based on some of his social media output, but I find him about as funny as trepanning. The Office was good despite him rather than because of him, Crook and Freeman drove it for me.

That said, would I like After Life or should I give it a wide berth?

Do it. It’s not your standard Gervaise humour.

Philomena cunk is brilliant in it too.

There’s actual acting in it that has moved well away from David Brent.

I’d take a punt on it.

He stills has thing about trying to be offensive for the sake of it, bit it’s better than the sum of its parts in that respect.

I can’t stand his previous stuff this however is brilliant. It’s still has a touch of Gervais is Gervais in a comedy by Gervais but not enough to ruin it.

I can’t recommend The Dawn Wall (Netflix) enough. I thought it was a much better story than Free Solo. (Amazon / Google for rental)

Watched them both back to back, and Dawn Wall twice.

I also preferred the sincerity of the film making too.

    But they’re both fantastic films.

If you haven’t seen it already Valley Uprising is also very good. I watched it after Free Solo and Dawn Wall but if anyone hasn’t seen any of them start with Valley Uprising to give a wider context to the other two.
