Remember Stokes going for all them sixes in the 20:20 world final……

Could we be in a 20 needed from the last over with him to do it?

I mean, fair play. People, me included, have been complaining this game has been too skewed in favour of batsmen with big bats just mishitting sixes.

NZ have defended 240 in the semis and now the final, against the two batting powerhouses of the tournament with guile, slower balls, cross seamers and a dibbly-dobbly 75mph bloke going at 3 an over.

    [edit] and some great fielding

Super over – each side bats for one over, most runs wins it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Over

Stokes needs to sort his calling out though……. he’s done two blokes in two balls neither of who faced a ball! That’d be a jug at my old club!

That was a bit tense. 🙂

Am I right in thinking they used to settle a tie on wickets lost (which would have meant NZ winning)?

Must be the day for down to the wire wins. Well fought New Zealand and (spoilers) Federer.

I’m so happy, and surprised, that we’ve fought such a fight and actually won.

    Why did we win?

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a game of cricket until the end, know nothing about it and assumed it was one of the dullest sports out there.

I’m going to have to reappraise my opinion…that was absolutely phenomenal sport…as good as I can remember watching. What a finish!!

    Why did we win?

In the event of a tie, results from the pre-tournament pub quiz are taken into consideration.

Please someone explain, it’s a draw but we win ???

Equal runs at the end of each innings – doesn’t matter about wickets at that point.

Super over, whoever gets most runs in the super over wins.

If that’s equal then it’s the number of boundaries in both the normal innings AND the super over:

England hit 22 fours and three sixes in their innings.

New Zealand hit 14 fours and two sixes.

Thanks – TV didn’t explain it!
