    Update for interest:

Last year my Santa Cruz Juliana was stolen from my shed (brick outhouse not a flimsy wooden thing) and I received a successful payout without fuss from M+S Home Insurance.

I have been dreading the renewal thinking they would either whack the premium up or refuse to insure our bikes (two FS MTBs and 2 road bikes) but the renewal arrived today and it was pretty much the same as last year and the £4k limit remains. Did a quick price comparison and managed to knock another £20 off and get £45 cashback from quidco, so buildings and contents insurance is costing about £230 for the year including worldwide cover for getting on for £10k worth of bikes – very happy with this!

In the same vein, my campervan is insured through Lifesure. Last year the cover was £430ish, this year the renewal with Axa was £450, but Lifesure said they had found a new product with the same cover available to them this year at £250ish through a new Lloyds syndicate.

    Knockout!

My M&S renewal quote is £480 – never claimed evvva and live in a low-crime/no subsidence/blah part of Surrey.

I changed from M&S because their premium had gone silly to maintain the cover that we all raged about. OP Id check your level of cover under the renewal if I were you….

stoner – who did you move to for home/contents + bike ? And do you have to name/value bikes etc if > a certain amount ?

I think we’re back with the AA at about £350ish. Buildings & Contents.

I got Mrs S to check that all our bikes are covered including the expensive one (c. £3.5k to replace) and we’re good. Didnt have to name the bike either IIRC. Also away from home cover too I think.

    LUCKY YOU!!! OP.

They refuse to insure my bikes over 1k. Even though their replacement is 3k.

Plus I live in a good area.

Quick check on AA brings up:-

unattended bikes must be locked in a building or secured via the back wheel to a “permanent structure”
wear and tear depreciation is taken into account for bikes – so no “new for old” stylee payouts.

    So, I’m out.

Stoner, Limit is £4k, I’ve triple checked – renewal notice even lists the claim but also confirms £4k limit in place with no endorsements or restrictions – contents incl away from home is £96 per year and the rest is for buildings. Area not the best as well – ex-council house on the outskirts of a large city in northern England.
