Whilst in FoD yesterday I stumbled across a bunch of MTB'ers having a race against a team of huskies. They were apparently shooting for a mtb magazine.

I think the bikers lost 🙁

Anyway here are a few pix:

Well its obvious that the Huskies beat the bikers as all the bikers are on geared bikes!!! Now if the bikers had been on a single geared bike then the bikers would have owned the huskies!

Gears are like testicles. Anymore than one and it is a waste!!! (just ask Lance)

You could have put "SPOILER" in the title! 😉

On the flat or uphill the dog team will run the bikers ragged – more legs to do more work!

Would have been 'interesting' to see the dog team do a nice techy downhill section though! 😆

I'd love to try that with my three greyhounds. I would predict 45mph for about 30 seconds then no more power for about a day!

I race sled dogs and it's ace!

I'm trying to combine my two hobbies in building a nice aluminium MTB inspired sled to make the dogs go even faster over rough stuff.

Hmm, i can see a great build project coming on…

..lightweight tri-wheeler with 8" travel all round and MAHOOSIVE 20" discs! 😆

That's the MBUK lot isn't it? Looks like fun to me.

    Cool pics RT.

No-one, I repeat no-one on a bike can beat a dog uphill. Not even a daschund!

Sure it is the mbuk lot – doddy and Oli Beckinsale for sure.

….only mbuk would do a 'race a dog sled' feature…

I remember reading about helen mortimer with diving weights on her bike and scuba gear trying to 'ride' underwater. And a zillion other 'wacky' features.

muddydwarf – so you in then?

    – there's no restrictions re weight or wheel size in dog sledding I can show up on a full suss light as a feather machine and fly over the rough stuff.

everyone else uses steel and old bmx cast offs, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Mmmm yes julian, I'd much rather read a whole page of rambling thoughts on what someone may or may not ride in the coming year.

Looks like they were having great fun redthunder. Dog Sled events have become quite popular in FoD in recent years, some pretty big weekend events in the Mallards Pike area. They've had man v horse v mtb at Llanwrtyd Wells so dog sled v mtb at FoD seems like a good idea 🙂

Hmm, thinking about it i wouldn't be putting a huge disc on the front wheel as – combined with the dog's forward momentum it would flip you inot a 'dog humping' embarrassment pretty damn quick!

Independent suspension for the rear wheels is obviously essential, sure we could engineer a 6" rear end with a 160mm air fork up front.

    Hmmm….

you just need a platform at the front for the dogs to jump onto when it's heading downhill at speed…

If anyone is genuinly serious about getting an MTB dog sled hybrid thing built I would love to meet them as I know people would deff' buy one especcially if I were to suddenly start whipping the opposition on one.
