Made redundant yesterday. Last day next Friday. Les Gets Saturday. PDS Sunday – might stay for the summer!

This is the very definition of a cloud’s silver lining.

Nice, we keep joking about staying out for the summer to try and get jobs as guides… then learning to ski and doing winter too lol

Yep. Mate has done exactly that in Chamonix. Jammy sod even managed to work remotely so kept his UK job part time for the last 9 months!

Did that in 1990 when I was 18 and stayed in the Alps for the next 12 years.

    I would strongly recommend it.

Is the Bike Park in Les Gets (Mont Chery side) opened again?

As a rough estimate how much does it cost to go to Morzine for a week this time of year? Cheap as you can type of pricing rather than lavish champagne swigging pricing.

    I ache.
If you fancy it, we’ve got a spare place in a group of 20 going to Morzine for the Passportes du Soleil for a week?

Had one drop out last minute, £210 for the weeks accomadation (Self catering but very plush apartment) and entrance into the PdS event (the sunday) included, then contribution to fuel and ferry fare?

We leave on 11pm ferry from Newhaven next wednesday.

not there until august! 🙁 Bet those dry dusty trails will be a distant memory by then! 😥

Going on a holiday with all MrsDrillski’s extended family, brother in law and I plan on making oursleves scarce each day until teatime, that was the deal that was struck and we intend to keep to it!!! Just to relieve the overcrowding in the chalet you understand 8)

gsp1984, I had continental gravity on when I arrived here but the front kept washing out so I’ve got some maxxis high rollers on it now 2.35’s, super tacky on the front and 60a on the back, seems to work well

Mk1fan, mont chery side is open, but most people seem to sticking to the les chavannes side of les gets

I_ache, we paid about £100 each for the chalet, about £70 each for the euro tunnel €70 in tolls (per car)on the French roads!!!!!!! And the spending money after that not sure about bike hire costs, and you could always fly down here, there’s a few ways of doing it!

They binned it because of accidents, surely not… bearing in mind there is 50ft gaps and much bigger drops

I think people lacking ability* were more tempted by the shed than by 50foot gaps. Every other shed drop video on youtube includes broken wrists. And the bike park was sponsored by Kona, who would pay for airlifts if you got injured within the boundary (as a mate of ours discovered, luckily as he had no insurance 😯 )

Agree its not the biggest or gnarliest feature but its the only one I know of in the whole PDS that was removed, cant think why else other than number of injuries?

*if you rolled off it at not much more than walking pace you landed on the down slope which had the same gradient (and every year got built up and back to meet the shed, reducing the drop), the chicken ladder seemed to confuse things and convince people to roll it even slower (ie. too slowly).

Scud Would love to but don’t have any holiday left this year.

Prices above don’t sound unreasonable provided a decent group can be gathered.

    I_Ache… unpaid leave?

You can do Morzine cheap, easy jet flight, camp in Les GEts and cheap food. We live on bread, cheese and ham at lunch time with nice meals in the evening. It all depends how many of you going, if a group then you can get 4- 15 person chalets for peanuts. It’s a fantastic place to ride your bike!!

First time I went I mainly stayed on the mapped tracks and came back thinking that it was a bit of a fairground experience up and down but next time I did a bit of research and found some great off piste stuff.

Anyway here is a decent map (Like street map in the UK)

I am not really into big drops and jumps and hoards of people.

dan77, would love to know the local weather forecast for the next week?

Does it rain and then dry up quickly?

I have been checking online but hoping what i’m seeing isn’t true! First time to Morzine and hoping for a dry run.

I was around lake Geneva, Jura and Montreux over the last weekend and the weather was stunning. A bit too hot by the lake (circa 25-28) but beautiful in the mountains (around 1750m above Montreux)

    @I_Ache – that is a great offer @scud has made you ..

first time I went to Les Gets we hired bikes, I had an GT i-Drive ‘freeride’ bike’, it was god awful. Any how, we went up to the shed and I think I rode at it for an hour, never went off it as the only thing you can see on the roll in is sky, nothing but sky. It freaked me out, don’t know why as it’s small in comparison to anything else we rode while we were there.

Went back the year after with my own bike and it had gone 🙁
We arrive there on the 27th July, here’s hoping for some sunny weather and the whole of June without the formation of braking bumps!

Poonprice- this is what we’ve been using http://morzineweather.com it seem to have pretty accurate we had a bit of heavy rain last night but everything was still rideable today, saying that we didn’t go near any north shore today

The reason i heard is that they couldn’t get an ambulance up there easily so everyone who binned it up there had to be taken down in a chopper. I imagine the grown up shed jump was ultimately more to blame?

The bike park was sponsored by Kona and they paid for the helicopter.

thats me in the video, i was fine for the first few days but those braking bumps have taken their toll on me, to the point i can barley move now 🙁

I guess you have to spend some time search away from the usual tourist routes to find the smoother trails.

Can anyone recommend a guide in chatel that can do short notice, and just for one day or two.

From experience, the shed drop was much like the Chatel road gap, in that peer pressure in a group of wobblers caused people to have delusions of grandeur resulting in a number of people doing things they really shouldn’t & ultimately spannering themselves. Kona then probably got fed up with having a helicopter on standby!

We’re heading over after the Mega, quite looking forward to it, as we haven’t been there for a few years.

That’s me and my buddies right there lol

Hoping by the end of the 10 days I can give it a go, quite happy doing biggish drops, they always look smaller in the videos though, so when I get there I’ll probably just say not a chance.

The corkscrew/spiral is in the chatel bike park.
