How can he ever sell that house? Going to have to be a cash buyer for sure. He must have a very understanding wife.

She probably lives somewhere else, a little less chaotic 😀

I don’t think he lives there anymore – he has enough YouTube subscribers and views to live elsewhere – much to the delight of the neighbors……. until he starts tunneling!

Yes another tunnel inside and concrete between the 2 layers but the first tunnel skin seems very thin. Says me who has never worked with anything like that so have no idea, however, it is brilliant to watch.

Not sure he has planning permission for his latest hole in the ground…

I love that he has building control logs for ‘building of a bomb shelter’ though

    http://planning.southkesteven.gov.uk/online-applications/propertyDetails.do?activeTab=relatedCases&keyVal=NR9NUU00DT02N

(address from a quick google of his name which shows registered businesses at this address…and not that many people build bomb shelters, so it is probably the right place…All public info and not intended to be stalkerish…)

I’d have loved to been in the office, the day the bomb shelter planning application came in 😂

Maybe not and this is all part of the plot… saves having to disturb the patio from above

If his next project is a sarcophagus then there should be concerns raised!

Makes me cringe watching him use that jackhammer in the tunnel without ear protection!

I can just imagine the neighbours happily watching him build the new rockery in the garden, then getting slowly more and more concerned as it grows to the height of his house…

How can he ever sell that house?

He mentioned this on one of the review video’s about the bunker. An expert told him that the property would be best advertised as a unique bunker with the added attraction of an attached house.

I don’t think he’ll have any trouble selling it. It’ll easily be worth as much as one of the neighbouring houses. Admittedly he won’t get the money back he’s spent on it, but the videos and sponsorship pay for that.

When he comes to sell, a video of estate agents doing valuations who are unaware of what lies in the garden needs to be done.

Do you mean because he won’t want to?

I’d love it! It would be a big plus point for me unless there were serious safety concerns or it required expensive specialist maintenance on a regular basis.

My concern would be that anyone buying would not get a mortgage due to the excavations in the garden. Building regs? Planning? Soil structure testing? Lenders are always twitchy about stuff like that and often seek indemnity insurance if things don’t conform.
Would still love to have this in my garden though, no doubt. I would not want to dissuade him from doing this either, its blooming brilliant. I would hope that the Youtube stuff and his massive viewing numbers mean that he will never need to be concerned with trivial things like selling the place or hearing loss!

What about the calculations to confirm the design of the structure is fine…also didn’t like the way he’s using plate steel and pouring concrete behind it with no corrosion protection, so harldly a structure built to last a long time. Also what about ventilation? Didn’t seem to build any in to his bunker. Good fun though but suspect he’s written off the house and the bunker is just a project for his channel. I suspect when he ditches that house he’ll have to dig it all up and backfill it before it would be acceptable for anyone else to live in.

Do you think he’d of got it past building control without calcs?

Has he got planning permission? Something like that surely is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission?

Not saying he hasn’t…but surely something like that will require some special stuff to get permission.

Again, showing my ignorance of all this.

I’m sure he said he got retrospective planning for the bunker, which he admitted was a bit of a gamble 🤣

There are websites where you can put in the details of a YouTuber and it will give you estimates of their income based on their views and level of in video advertising.

There is also sponsorship, Patreon, merchandising etc.

His Ltd company and company accounts are easy enough to find if you go down a rabbit hole of the planning link shared by @JCA

He seems to be doing very well. Good on him. He makes great, engaging, inspiring content. Why shouldn’t he be be rewarded similarly to TV and conventional media personalities.

Writing off the cost of a house in Lincolnshire is probably worth it.

I kind of wish I’d only found this after it was finished, but I’ve been following for a while. TBF they are coming through pretty quickly if they are following the build/dig progress

he needs someone to sponsor him on grand designs

    mrmonkfinger

To be fair it wouldn’t make for a very good grand designs, he’d just get on and build the thing himself… and then it would be finished.

Without all the “drama” in the middle where the builders steal the roof or it goes fifteen times over budget or the foundations collapse or the unique quadruple glazed windows which are only available from a small artisan factory on the foothills of the nepalese himalayas turn out to have a surprisingly long lead time, or something.

Given he seems to be removing everything he has dug out using those plastic buckets I would love to know how many bucketloads they have carted out.

I remember the size of the pile of earth we dug out just to make a flowerbed a bit bigger, I can’t imagine how much material they must have shifted using nothing more than a load of buckets.

I’m intrigued how the tunnel is coming along. He seems to have not updated that for months.

Think he said in one of his videos that the there wasn’t going to be a tunnel video for a while as he had other projects he needed to do first, and it takes a while to make progress, so needs time to actually get good content for a video.

    DickBarton

His last tunnel video did ay it would be a few months before a next update – didn’t hint at why really but it is annoying as it is an interesting project!

He’s doing a series of projects for the new Far Cry game, and I guess digging a secret tunnel using hand tools isn’t exactly fast 😁

I think he mentioned that he needed some sunshine! He’ll probably finish the tunnel with rickets and a spine problem. Great content though. Love the 2wd bike. Decent tyres and it would have gone very well.

Colin channels his inner forest gump.

far too sensible for this thread 😀

One thing confuses me about Colin, the tie. Everone who’s ever worked in a workshop knows they’re dangerous. Long hair gets tied back in a bun or tucked under a hat, flapping ties are banned. You’re a bad example, Mr Furze.

Yeah because that’s the most dangerous thing he does… 🤣

I watched that last night. Surprisingly sensible and useful. I wonder how well it would stand up to extended use in a British climate (i.e. wet), because for bigger grass areas, that might be a sensible option.

I wonder if yu could do a football pitch with the right battery setup…

Nice tie, but unsure what is ‘safety’ about it as it appears to be a standard tie – or have I missed the marketing humour to it and it is in actual fact just a standard tie?
