Locking Wheel Nuts – Land Rover HELP

So I have some locking wheel nuts on my Range Rover.

The locking nut key snapped over the weekend and after some lengthy conversations with a number of Land rover dealers and internet (and ebay) searching i have come to the conclusion that i do not have anything anybody has seen before.

The wheels are off a Range Rover Sport and the nuts are pictured below i hope.

THe key has a B or possibly an 8 printed on the back of it. However, every type of land rover locking nut does not look anything like mine.

I was hoping somebody on here could help with one of the following;

a) DOes anybody know what type of key this is and where i coudl get a replacement?
b) does anybody have a B key that looks like this that i coudl borrow to get all of mine off and through them away (beers available in reward)
c) Suggest a way to get these nuts off the car? bearing in mind they have a spinning outside part?

You may need to fabricate some sort of guard to prevent the wheels getting scratched in the process though.

If you have access to a welder you could weld a nut onto it and undo it that way.

shove some blutack/PoP/summatelse in to take an impression & use it as a template to make a new key ?

It's only the very outer ring that rotates, right?

I've had success in the past by tapping a locking nut at an angle with a hammer and punch to work it loose.

C) Take it to a reputable garage that sells tyres/exhauts etc.. and they should have a piece of kit similar to a bolt extractor. I got quoted 30 quid but it wrights off the locking nut, which is fubar anyway.

if you got a some one to drill a thread into the middle of the stud the put either a left hand thread bolt into or just a normal one once the bolt reaches the end of the taped hole you will be able to apply a lot more pressure and be able to undo the wheel then just replace the stud with a new one which should be the cheapished and most affective way along with causeing no damage to the wheel or your hud

also i may also be able to get the a new key from work if you send me a picture of the key with some dimensions i will have a look it we stock them and if we dont i will send it to a brit tool to have a look at it

(p.s i work for a massive company which wholesales all tools and fastners)

Welding is a little out of my experience to be honest and i want to remove all four so was relaly looking for the repeatable way.

Dalesboy: would love to take you up on the offer, but the key has disintegrated hence the issue. happy to send what's left if you think you can help.

I have no tap or die sets nevermind left hand thread ones.

I broke my key, went to my local Mr Clutch and they drilled out all the locking nuts. I supplied a replacement set and the whole job cost me £20. Bargain.

Oh, and I bought the replacement set at a nearby autoshop for about £15.

local land rover dealer, looks like a freelander 2 locking wheel nut / after market wheel nut key,seen loads like that , land rover tech.

Had to do this to my sister in law's car a few weeks ago.
We got a socket that was 'just' to tight to go over it and witha mash hammer forced it on over the locking nut. It cuts into the metal and then use a ratchet to take it off.
The socket can split so better to have too many than not enough but I managed to get all 4 off using 2 sockets.
Just don't miss when you're hammering it on 🙂

yep,just use an old socket that nearly fits on and hammer it on. before it is nearly unscrewed, waggle it to remove it.

i have to admit i still nip up my mcguards this way after losing they tool as im too lazy to buy 4 plain bolts for the winter wheels.
