likelyhood of getting to bangor in 2 days?

Have a cottage booked for christmas/NY in bangor, North wales. Owners are saying there isn’t a cancellation policy and the roads nr are fine.

My mother is now panicking and is close to calling it off. Myself and my brother want to give it a try – i’ve got a pair of autosocks for the t4.

What’s the chances of making it? (crystal balls at the ready 🙂

Anyone else venturing up that way over xmas?

A friend just made it back from Yorkshire to North Wales last night in his BMW 5 series so the roads can’t be that bad…

My sister and bro-in-law live just outside of Bangor and have had huge amounts of snow – think the main roads are ok, but where they are nothing’s moving 🙄

Hope you get there – I’m supposed to be going up next week sometime…

Depends, what means of transport?

Car – perhaps
BMW – likely not
Skis – certainly but better set off now.

(seriously – the A55 is probably going to be fine, depends where your cottage is tho)

2 days should be plenty of time, gives you time even to get stuck in a snowdriff for 24 hours and stll have enough time to get there. A Christmas to remember!

A55 is a major road and will kept clear at all costs.Less likely to be masses of snow at sea level-different story inland and higher,bethesda was fully snowed in at the weekend.

you will be fine getting to Bangor on A55 you may struggle to get to cottage from there where exactly is it?

Bangor’s nice. I stayed in the TocH place once, overlooking a little harbour, with Anglesey in the distance. Lovely.

friends in chester are complaining there is no snow, whilst here in the Cotswold foothills everything has ground to a halt. I am surprised by how many people own snow chains. On that basis, if you can get onto the M5 and head north eventually it will be ok.

i’m in the cotswolds at the moment :)came here friday and got snowed in saturday so decided to stay here and work from home.

Need to get back to Bristol to pick everything up though and make the journey north

Drove down late last night from Welshpool to Pembroke – all passable although there has been snow this a.m. in south Powys

If you head ‘up the outside’ M5 – M6 – M56 and along the A55 you should be fine

To be fair I would be happy on the M54 and then up the A5 via Corwen – but then that’s me

I found Bangor somewhat unsatisfying. I mean it’s right there on the edge of the mountains and you can’t see any of it (unless you go to the harbour) and you wouldn’t even know they were there. You can’t even get up there by bus easily.

All i know is this place has a hot tub, sauna and it’s a break away for the week.

You’ll be fine. I’d be more concerned if it was in upper Bangor, or up Lon Pobty, but your near the harbour there and so don’t need to go up any major hills.

Oh and +1 for Bangor and it’s environs being great…..although Anglesey is nicer.

Wahay! We used to have some fun driving through that ford, in my Nova and a selection of my mates equally ridiculous cars.

Also used to use it as an alternative route to St Marys from the A55 when they were digging up the high street.
