No idea how you lot have a “collection” of whisky. If it’s in the house, it tends to get drunk within the week. I’ve not got a good rep with making it last though; when at university my technique for writing essays was start the evening at about 11 with a full bottle(sadly own brand co-op blend in those days) and a load of books and wake up at 8 the next morning with an empty bottle and a finished essay I had simply no knowledge of.

I think both of the above might indicate I’d have an alcohol problem if I had better access to shops!

Salsaboy: Bruichladdich’s packaging is impressive. It’s very contemporary, not your traditional whiskey brand. The distillery must have quite a open minded marketing department.

they have just been bought out by remy martin so lets hope they dont spoil what has been a marvelous recovery since they re opened 11 years ago.

quite liked the yamazki, but it did tate a bit of flowers.

agree about the mortlach, lovely stuff

The two at either end are rather nice. The small one is an 18yo Macallan. There is a bottle of Bushmills 1608 waiting for Christmas somewhere in the house too.

    What a smashing topic. 😀

I like a drop meself, here’s my wee collection just now.

The concoction in the swingtop at the front is the latest batch of homemade “Drambuie Liqueur” another week and it’ll be filtered, bottled and sealed. I then leave it in the shed, insulated and tucked away in a drawer for 6 months at least. I currently have another 2 litres of the same brew settling in there. The Jamesons I use to make a Bailey’s Irish Cream. The Kepak Buchan one in the coffin is quite nice, I’ve tried to find out what it actually is, it was a gift to me about 6 years ago, from a Supplier to the company I work for.
Also, this was a damn fine birthday! 😀

I read in a whisky tasting book that once a bottle is open it loses a lot of the volatiles that create the flavour over time, and a whisky collection with many opened bottles is to be avoided?

Just one bottle of Ardbeg here, not for the above reason though, just having too many is a bad influence…!

Just returned from a Tour of Islay – visit all distilleries by bike. It rained. It was windy. Bruichladdich served up a generous taster of Dark Magic, which is now on the Christmas list 🙂

Oh, and the Ballygrant Inn had a fair collection…

My collection is a little sparse at the moment, half a bottle of Balvenie Doublewood (on offer in Sainsbury’s at the weekend) and a bottle of Glenmorangie single cask which we bottled in the speakeasy the day it was announced that the company had been sold to LVMH.

I’d never manage to accumulate a collection half as good as most of the ones here, it’s always drunk too quickly 🙂

Suppose that makes sense, I usually finish a bottle before opening another.
This topic had me reaching for the half finished bottle of glenfiddich…….. on a weeknight! 😯

What’s the bottle centre front rich?

Chivas Royal Salute 21yo. Given to me as a gift by my Mum, not really my type of whisky but a very nice addition nonetheless

I’m glad this thread made me look at my stash… I discovered that there are unlagged central heating pipes in the back of the cupboard where these were shoved when we moved house and a few of them which were up against the pipes were a bit warm.

I’ll be at B&Q tonight buying some lagging.

Half a bottle of Madeira cask aged Penderyn. So hardly worth taking a picture.
Recently explained my penchant for welsh whiskey to a scotch whiskey seller. He scoffed as if I were an imbecile.
Harsh, but fair ? I mean about my whiskey choice, not about being an imbecile. (which is probably right 🙂

    Penderyn is nice though.

I had quite a few bottles of various whiskies and vodka’s … but I’ve let it deplete itself over the past couple of years.

Not so keen on the really smoky whiskies such as Caol Ila .. much prefer a nice smooth single malt. Aberfeldy is rather nice.

On a related topic I saw this fella in the Duty-free at Heathrow earlier in the year…

    A 59 year Dalmore… If you can’t quite read the price it’s £13,000! Christ!

ok, ok, so we only purchased a couple of bottles worth 🙂
it’s the bonded warehouse at Bladnoch Distillery. A LOT of casks from a very wide range of distilleries, apparently mostly heading for blending….

my stash is of an unknown..

The orchard and pressing business that I’m helping out with has a small quantity that came from the oak barrels the previous owner bought.
Each barrel had some whiskey left in it, so he drained it off through a fine filter and bottled it.
He’s left me the 13litres and as the new owners don’t drink its down the muggin’s here to get rid of it.

Its pretty oakie as you can guess, and its rather strong but tasty all the same.

    🙂

Treated myself to a couple of bottles today. I have been wanting to try the Japanese whisky for a while and have never seen it about but saw it today in a lager Waitrose and thought it be rude not to buy it especially with £5 off.

I’ve added two this week, both aged in Sherry casks.
