Lenovo duet 3 chromebook, your thoughts

Hi all,

We are after a tablet/pc device to do little more than email, surfing and Google docs.

But importantly we will be taking it backpacking so size is key. A

ny reason not to go with this, appears to get reasonable reviews

I’m using one in tablet form to type this reply.

For my needs (basic) it has been excellent excepting one thing. The magnetic keyboard gave up the ghost some time ago and are quite expensive to replace, which is a shame. I used to enjoy tapping away on it instead of one finger texting like what I’m doing now.

I’ll replace this with something similar but it won’t have the magnetic removable keyboard.

Cheers, I had a play instore and the connection certainly looked like a potential weakness.

How long did the keyboard last?

What’s your definition of backpacking for this?

Id everything you want to do can be done through a web browser, they’re ok. Not brilliant but ok.

I found the lack of eg. Ms office apps (web browser online versions only) and streaming services not having apps you can download content offline to a bit of a limit.  Theoretically you can use android apps but I find them pretty clunky.

I find larger tablets with a Bluetooth keyboard better really or a full on windows laptop.

Depends what you mean by a ‘little more’! as that’s basicaly all chromebooks are good for.

My old Chromebook drove me mad with Google trying to shoehorn me on to all their products rather than the stuff I was used to. Don’t know if they’re better now but I wouldn’t touch one if you spend any length of time in Apple/Microsoft land.

Backpacking. We are doing it old school, taking just a 40 litre backpack and day sack each , travelling on trains, planes and buses for two months.

Ms Office! I’m MS free 🙂 using only Google Web based word, spreadsheet etc.

I bought it second hand, although it didn’t look like it had been used very much. I guess the keyboard lasted about a year after that. There is a bit about this fault if you search online.

I’m the same, happy just using Google docs etc.

Chrome books are naff and so restrictive when trying to create anything.

Just a  glorified browser in the pocket of Google.

Lenovo CB’s are heavy as well 🙁

Full blown laptops are expensive and so OTT when all you want to do is email, surfing and Google docs .

You have millions of Android apps along with tight integration with the Google suite.

Windows laptops for the same price as a Duet are heavy as well, about a kilo more.

I’ve had two Chromebooks for home use since I stopped using my Windows 8 desktop. In-between that was a brief flirtation with a Macbook Air which really didn’t live up to the hype.
