I prefer Brickowl, it’s not got as many sellers as Bricklink but I much prefer the interface. You can set up wish lists and the website will try and find sellers for the parts minimising the postage costs. Works for most components quite well, the really rare ones are difficult to find anywhere and a few are stupid expensive like the cockpit for Darth Vaders UCS tie fighter which goes for £130 for a single piece. You can import rebrickable inventories into a Brickowl wish list as well.

You can buy some bricks through Lego but the selection is limited and it tends to be quite expensive (although you do get VIP points). Tends to be basic small system parts, not a lot of technic or special parts. The link above is really for missing parts rather than purchasing lots of bits.

    That’s really helpful, thanks.

I have actually ordered from Brickowl before, when I wanted a single part. But I couldn’t work out how to order multiple different bits, presumably from different sellers without spending a fortune on postage. I’ll investigate the Wishlist thing.

from memory in Bricklink you can configure it to e.g. cheapest total price, or smallest number of orders, etc. Pretty clever! Sure Brickowl must have a similar feature.
Bricklink also make a LEGO CAD package which is very cool in itself, but then can leverage the Wishlist feature, so once you’ve designed your model it will automatically source & order the bits for you from as many different sellers as necessary!

Don’t think BrickOwl has the same thing. Bricklink seemed to work – it is quite clever, but not infallible. E.g. I specced what I wanted, and the best they could do was two separate sellers, one in Thailand, one in Netherlands. Obviously postage was prohibitive.

Eventually I worked out (by trial and error) that some of the wheels I was trying to order were rare / expensive and once I’d chosen an alternative wheel and changed some colour preferences, I could get the bits I needed for a fraction of the original quoted price. To be honest I got bored / annoyed sifting through the various permutations of my order and just pressed go, so I will wait to see if what arrives is sufficient.

Anyone interested in a Technic Formula Off Roader (42037)?

Genuine Lego, complete, stickers not used, etc…

Couldn’t have put it better myself. Is it the same scale as the snow speeder? If so I may faint.

The UCS one? I don’t think so, its big but not that big.

    That AT-AT is something else!!!!!

Couldn’t help thinking of this as I was clicking through the pictures:

@Superficial that is one of the really cool features of the CAD package – when you select a brick from your model or the library, it automatically shows the current average price for that part & colour (as well as an estimated total cost for the entire model). So you can quickly see what impact changing the colour or using a different type of brick entirely will have on the cost!

That’s AT-AT – As much as I’m a Star Wars fan – £750?! The Millennium Falcon has more pieces and is less money and is far less symmetrical. The Titanic has waaay more pieces and is a LOT less money.

I’d be more tempted by the Titanic.

I was looking forward to the AT-AT but even I’m going to struggle with that price tag. I already have one UCS size AT-AT
    AT-AT
and am in the process of sourcing parts for a UCS scale AT-TE.

What daffy said is where I’m at. It’s really, REALLY, cool but £750 is ridiculous. I could stomach £4-500 at push, but yeah, nah.

Definitely a tax on that AT-AT. £500 at best

I might be imagining things, but I could’ve sworn that AT-AT was £450 yesterday.

The Saturn V was 1969 bricks at £110, I bought a “Christmas decoration, honest” recently at £80 for 1445 pieces. Purely on brick count alone, a 6785-piece set should be coming in sub-£400.

Yes, as cool as it is, £750 is way OTT for that AT-AT. I’m also not sure it has the playability factor that a couple of earlier reviewers believe it has. Sure, it contains loads of internal space for figures and speederbikes etc, but the legs require a special ‘screwdriver’ to manipulate them into various poses. While the articulation looks great – and is pretty true to TESB – it’s going to test the patience of people IMO and they’ll end up keeping it as another display piece.

You should see the markup on Minecraft sets. Some of them are obscenely overpriced.

This tread has made me regret not buying the Technic Porsche 911 RSR when it was on sale for a steal in the toys sale. Just got my niece some lego architecture stuff.

The girls already have six smaller sets lined up coming their way calendar, hovercraft ferrari mclaren elva and so.

But I might have overcompensated a bit and filled up my closet a bit.

Could resist at the lambo as a lot of money and not such a good price localy.

    But whe now have

    2X Mclaren Senna GTR

    Dominic dodge charger

    2X Ford Raptor F 150

and a Ferrari 488 GTE AF Corse to top it of.

Looks I a am fine for some rainy or snowy days this winter season.

not being in to Star Wars saved me from maxing out the bank card

Probably worth a look at Ebay’s black friday- 20% off a lot of lego, most of the prices don’t look outstanding even with the discount but some look good to me. Technic Porsche for £90?

Was in Meadowhall Lego tonight and wow it’s changed. Soooo much stuff for 16/18+. Is this the rejection of Lego by kids aged 7-15 in favour of screens? Some really impressive stuff. Definitely not a ‘toy’ shop anymore.

I’ve no idea, I assumed that it was a realisation that your average 30-year old had more disposable income than your average 8-year old, but that could be a part of it also? “Adult Fans Of Lego” has been an unofficial thing for years.

    scuttler
    Full Member

Agree adults have always been buying Lego but look in one of the stores and you’ll see what I mean. Not much in the way of Lego City fire engines or speedboats. I don’t doubt there’s an economic factor relating to disposable income.

    stumpyjon

Kids (or their parents) continue to buy Lego, what Lego have realised is there is a big demand from adults who have way more disposable income so they’ve gone from a stance of actively not marketing to adults to changing people’s perception that their Lego addiction doesn’t need to be a dirty little secret. This thread kinda bears that out. The Lego shops are also aspirational, lifestyle places similar in concept to Apple stores. There’s still a lot of kits out there that don’t attract royalties at the £20 mark.

The Defender for £85 seems like a steal. It’s the biggest set I have, the boy and I loved building it. Think I paid £120 ish – I was rather hoping the price might go up like the 911, not down loads, but hey ho!

Wife’s just bought me the Defender for Christmas/Birthday 👍

The price was £85, then jumped upto £106 then down to £84!

With my limited free time I expect it’ll take me to next winter to finish 😂

I want the shuttle, it’s the last thing I need to complete my space collection.

20% off some sets at Disney Store online if anyone is interested. That includes the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Finished the AT-TE, bit bigger than I expected, about 70cm long, quite a complex build and more than a bit fiddly in places, looks pretty good though.
