Laptop – No Bootable Device after upgrade….

Hmmmm.

Old Acer Laptop (Aspire E15) appears bored.

Asked it to ‘Update And Restart’ after it couldn’t find our router this morning.
It’s been a bit odd for a while, taking ages to wake up, usually.

It took to me to screen which asked me to select a keyboard option, but wouldn’t accept any of the selections.

Turned it off and on again and now get the ‘No Bootable Device message.

Booked hard drive?
Nothing on it I’m not prepared to lose, but annoying nonetheless.

Any ideas?

Go into the bios and check what boot device(s) are selected. If the hard disk is in there then make sure it’s first in the order. Also can the BIOS see the hard disk? If that still doesn’t work then I’d be taking it apart and checking that the hard disk was still connected.

Have you left a USB stick in it somewhere?

Sounds like the HDD is sodded TBH.

You could try making a Windows boot drive on a USB with another system (if you have access) this should allow you to access some diagnostic tools. Also try and repair Windows.

There is a tiny/small chance that Windows update may have done something to change your boot partition. Have a look in the boot section of your BIOS and check that it is set to UFEI. If it is you can try changing it to Legacy to see if that resolves the issue.

Also if the boot process is getting you to the Grub loader, some Google time should help you through the steps to resolve.

Failing that your SSD/HDD is goosed.

The BIOS is set to prioritise the internal HDD.

Can I get to a Repair Windows screen from BIOS?

If you can make a bootable windows image on a USB drive, you can try loading that up but instead of installing windows you can run diagnostics and repair from the USB drive.
That way it can copy and replace any dodgy system files on you current windows drive.

Worked for me a few times.
