I’m planning a little point to point route in the lakes over a couple of days and am trying to find the best way to link Borrowdale to Grassmere.

    Would you, from Rosthwaite…

a)ride up Greenup Gill, over Greenup Edge, down Easedale Gill and finnish by Brimmer Head Farm.

    or

b)follw the BW NE to Watendlath Tarn, across to Blea Tarn, down through woods and Dob Gill to Thirlmere.

    or

    c) head directly south on the BW following Langstrath Beck, climb up Stake Beck to Black Craggs, then Cumbria Way all the way down the Langdale Valley followed by Loughrigg Terrace.

    Or any other options???

    Cheers

I would ride/carry up Rossett Gill, over past angle tarn, descend to Sprinkling Tarn, past Styhead Tarn and down to Stockley Bridge. Then pick up the trail that leads into Grange to the West of Castle Crags, either ride up Honister pass and ride it from the top, or you can pick it up lowere down.

Quite a few add ons if that’s not enoughg for you, best one is to go all the way up Honister Pass, turn right and onto Dale Head and descend towards Cstle Crags.

Sorry, just realised you wanted the other way. Not sure I’d do that the other way, Rossett Gill is mental hard, all big steps and stuff, depends how up for a challenge you are. I reckon there must be a good descent somewhere round the back of Pavey Ark though. Langstrath is a pain in the arse getting along on a bike, though I’m told if you stay to the right of the river there’s a better path. Stake Pass is a good descent, steppy, but not as mental as Rossett Gill, but just doing that would leave you a bit short on fun stuff as its two flat dull trails linked by a carry and a descent.

I can highly recommend the descent off Great Gable to Styhead if you need to add a bit of length btw.
